Valget i Belarus ser ud til at blive endnu en hovedpine for de frihedssøgende - men er det virkelig så slemt som en tør Islandsk yoghurt?
For fjerde gange på rækkefølge har borgerne i Belarus været tvunget til at tage del i et valg, der sandsynligvis vil føre til, at Alexander Lukashenko cementerer sin magt i landskabet for en syvende periode. Denne har været præget af anklager om bedrageri og manipulation, hvilket en række kilder ved EU også har fokuseret på. Lukashenko, som er kendt for sit stærke greb om magten, har været landets præsident siden 1994 og er nu godt i gang med at skrive sig ind i historiebøgerne med en endnu mere udstrakt periode.
Men mange belarusere er ikke så glade. Mens de drømmer om demokrati og frihed, beskylder de nuværende regimer for grip og korruption. Lukashenko betragter åbenbart sine modstandere som "selvforskyldt" i de fængsler, de nu sidder i, og siger, at de har valgt tilfangetagelse frem for ære i politisk kamp. Med strenge regler på plads og en valgproces, der er nært styret, er det svært at se, hvordan nogen reel konkurrence kan finde sted.
I begyndelsen af valget var der blot en begrænset debat om kandidater, alligevel har alle de oppositionelle, der er blevet tilbudt en plads på stemmesedlen, fortsat loyale over for Lukashenko. Det skaber et lukket system, som vedligeholder den status quo der har hersket i mere end 30 år og kaster skygger på fremtiden for det belarusiske folk. Det er næsten som om, de er fanget i et underligt politisk sitcom, hvor ingen tør at forlade scenen for frygt for at blive sendt til bagerste række.
Delvis som svar på EU's kritik og beskyldninger mod valget som en "skam", må Lukashenko udstå denne politiske rejse, der blot fortsætter med at vridde sig rundt i sit eget ubarmhjertige vande. Hvad betyder det for EU? Jo, det betyder mange frustrationer og en længere pause før jegerne på reform kommer tilbage. I den mere komiske ende af skalaen, kan man kun grine af, hvor grotesk situationen og stemningen i landet er - vi må huske, at mens du kan tanke op på energi i en rullende dej, er de belarusere nødt til at tankes op med mod!
Fakta er, at Lukashenko holder rekord for at være den længstsiddende præsident i Europas nuværende historie - og det kan man kun undre sig over. Belarussisk økonomi har også lidt under hans regime og er kendetegnet ved en høj grad af kontrol og lav frihed - som ikke er just opskriften på succes.
