Det syriske drama intensiveres, som rebellkræfterne stormer imod den centrale by Homs. Med en lynhurtig offensiv har de insurgenter, der engang intet håb havde om at overtage landet, nu fået overtaget, og medierne rapporterer dagligt om deres fremskridt. Den syriske regering, under ledelse af præsident Bashar al-Assad, ser ud til at være i en kritisk situation, da deres militære styrker trækker sig tilbage fra mange områder og efterlader en åbning for republikens fjender.

Mens de syriske rebeller samler momentum, frygter mange i det internationale samfund, hvad en potentiel magtoverdragelse kan betyde. Hvad 2024 vil bringe for både de syriske rebeller og Assad-regimet forbliver et spørgsmål med potensielt vidtrækkende konsekvenser for hele regionen.

Desuden kan det bemærkes, at den syriske borgerkrig begyndte i 2011 som en fredelig protest mod Assad-regimet. Efter mange års konflikt er det ikke kun politik, der er blevet påvirket, men også kultur og historie, som er under pres af ustabilitet og vold. Det syriske folks fremtid og velstand venter nu på udfaldet af det, der muligvis vil være den mest kritiske fase i denne konflikt.
