To australske backpackerjenter er indlagt med alkoholforgiftning efter en uheldig fest i Laos. Hvad skete der egentlig?

To unge australske kvinder, Holly Bowles og Bianca Jones, begge 19 år og fra Melbourne, har haft en skræmmende oplevelse under deres backpacker-rejse i Laos. De to kvinder er blevet indlagt på hospitaler i Thailand efter at have indtaget forurenet alkohol i Vang Vieng, en populær turistdestination. Det er en uheldig påmindelse om de risici, der følger med festing i udlandet, især når det kommer til indtagelse af alkohol, der kan være kontamineret med farlige stoffer som methanol.

Det er ikke ualmindeligt, at backpackere og festglade unge søger sjove, nye oplevelser, men denne hændelse har slået en grim streg i regningen for den australske duo. Ifølge rapporter har deres familier været ved deres senge i de thailandske hospitaler og holder skarpt øje med deres tilstand.
