Bernie Sanders, den velkendte progressive senator, har netop vundet sin fjerde valgperiode, og det er klart: Vermont elsker deres egen gamle socialist! Med en sejr over den republikanske modstander, Gerald Malloy, har Sanders vist, at han stadig har en solid støtte i sin stat, selv i en alder af 83. Det er ikke hver dag, man ser en politiker der arbejder tæt sammen med præsident Biden om nøglepolitikker, mens han også forbereder sig på at fejre sin 89-års fødselsdag!
Det er ret enestående, at Bernie Sanders fortsætter med at være en stærk stemme for progressiv politik, og det er ikke kun hans alder, der gør ham bemærkelsesværdig. Han er en uafhængig senator, der tiltrækker både demokrater og republikanere med sit fokus på lighed, sundhedspleje for alle og klimaplanlægning. Sanders' tilbagevenden til senatet betyder fortsat støtte for progressiv lovgivning, der har potentiale til at ændre livet for mange amerikanere.
