Pennsylvania er på alles læber, når vi nærmer os den store valgdato den 5. november. Det er i denne stat, at det endelige resultat af præsidentvalget kan afgøres, da både Donald Trump og Kamala Harris kæmper for at tiltrække vælgerne. Ifølge de seneste meningsmålinger er Trump kun ét procentpoint foran Harris, og det er så tæt, at det nærmest kan betragtes som et uafgjort. Spændingen i Pennsylvania er derfor højere end nogensinde, og stemmerne er talte. Hvem mon vil hæve hænderne i jubel, når stemmerne er talt op?
På valgdagen er det afgørende, at vælgerne kender åbningstiderne for afstemningsstederne. Pollerne åbner kl. 7 om morgenen og lukker kl. 20, så der er rigeligt med tid til at afgøre, hvilken kurs landet skal tage. Begge kampagner gør deres yderste for at sikre, at deres vælgere kommer ud at stemme. Harris er for eksempel på en intensiv kampagne, hvor hun prøver at indfange så mange vælgere som muligt i de afgørende timer op til valget.
Mens valgkampen bølger frem og tilbage, er der også en slags lukrativ fællesskabsfølelse blandt de unge vælgere, der er tilmeldt universiteterne i Pennsylvania. Størstedelen af statsuniversiteterne, som Pitt og Penn State, rapporterer stigende tilmeldinger fra udenlandske studerende. Dette kan ændre den demografiske opdeling blandt vælgerne og tilføre en ny dynamik til valgprocessen. Når unge stemmer, kan resultatet muligvis ændre sig drastisk.
