I en chokerende hændelse ramte terrorens mørke skygge Ankara onsdag eftermiddag, da en voldsom eksplosion og skudsalver opstod ved det tyrkiske flyveproduktionsselskab, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ). Det præsenterede en ubehagelig påmindelse om, at sikkerheden i også den mest innovative del af Tyrkiets industri ikke kan tages for givet. Tre personer er bekræftet døde, mens adskillige andre er blevet såret i denne hjerteskærende episode. Øjenvidner beskriver en scene af panik, da ansatte og besøgende forsøgte at søge dækning under det pludselige og brutale angreb.

Det tyrkiske indenrigsministeriums repræsentant, Ali Yerlikaya, bekræftede hændelsen via sociale medier og betegnelsen "terrorangreb" blev straks brugt. Media rapporterer, at der er blevet Åbnet ild og at eksplosiver har været involveret, hvilket sendte chokbølger gennem både befolkningen og regeringen. Præsident Erdogan udtrykte sin medfølelse for de faldne og de sårede og den klare afvisning af sådanne gerninger samt et løfte om, at retfærdighed vil finde sted.

Men hvad betyder det for den tyrkiske luftfartsindustri? Udover at være en hjørnesten i landets forsvarssektor, er TUSAŞ kendt for at fremstille og levere avancerede flysystemer og militærteknologi. Dette angreb kan derfor ikke kun påvirke virksomhedens daglige drift men også forme fremtiden for Tyrkiets ambitiøse drøm om at blive en selvforsynende luftfartsnation. Interessen for at udvikle innovative og robuste løsninger synes kun at vokse i takt med sådanne tragiske hændelser.

Terrorhandlinger retter sig ofte mod de mest sårbare led i et samfund — i dette tilfælde landets forsvarsindustri.
