Krigens ragnarok har ramt Beirut: Families flygter, leder falder – hvad sker der mon nu?
Beirut er igen under angreb, og denne gang er det ikke bare en lille konflikt. Israels bombardementer har efterladt byen i ruiner, og mange familier har været nødt til at flygte fra deres hjem i natten for at undslippe kaosset. Tanken om at forlade ens hjem er en frygt, som ingen bør opleve, men i Beirut bliver det en realitet, når missiler og raketter huserer. De seneste israelske angreb har kostet flere liv, og det har sendt chokbølger gennem lokalsamfundet.
Midt i det hele er nyheden om, at Hezbollah-leder Hassan Nasrallah angiveligt er blevet dræbt af de israelske styrker. Når en så central figur i konflikten falder, stiller det spørgsmål ved, hvad fremtiden bringer for Hezbollah og det libanesiske samfund. Mange borgere er i chok og nægter at tro på, at dette er sket, mens de bevæbnede mænd skyder i luften som et tegn på både sorg og vrede.
De israelske angreb har ikke kun ramt militære mål, men også civile områder, hvilket har tvunget tusinder til at søge tilflugt ved Beiruts strandpromenade. Situationens kompleksitet minder os om, at krig bringer uventede alliancer – og fjendskaber – som vi måske ikke kan forudse.
