Overraskende retsafgørelser sender Apple og Google til bunden – er det på tide at tjekke skatten?

Apple og Google har lige fået en skuffende nyhed fra EU, som ser ud til at gøre økonomiske konsekvenser for de store tech-giganter mere virkelige end nogensinde før. I et tidtagende skrivebord fra EU's højesteret blev det officielt fastslået, at Apple skal betale hele €13 milliarder i skatt for en såkaldt 'sweetheart tax deal' med Irland, som EU mener har givet dem uretmæssige fordele. Margrethe Vestager, EU's antitrustchef, jublede over dommen og betegner den som en stor sejr i kampen mod ulovlige skatteaftaler, og man kan næsten høre champagnen blive poppet i Bruxelles!

Samtidig måtte Google også se sig slået, da de har fået påtrykt et imponerende beløb på €2,4 milliarder i bøder af EU som følge af deres monopolaktiviteter. Dette viser klart, at EU's justitsmaskine arbejder hårdt for at skabe et retfærdigt spil for alle virksomheder, uanset størrelse. Vestager har nu bekræftet sin styrke i kampen mod dem, der mener, de stadig kan slippe for ansvar ved at rasle med de store penge.

Det er lidt som en fodboldkamp, hvor dommeren holder øje med alle offside-reglerne - og nu har vi alle set straffesparket! Apple og Google er endda kendt for deres store formuer og stærke lobbyarbejde, men i denne runde er det klart, at det ikke kan betale sig at lege skatteundvigelse. EU har indgået i en ny æra af regulering, og tech-giganterne skal til at danse efter begyndermusikken.

Det er ikke kun Apple og Google, der står ved skafottet; også Irland sidder med i skyggen, som har argumenteret imod kravene fra EU. Mens den irske regering har forsøgt at beskytte sine skatteordninger, fortalte dommerne i EU, at dette ikke kan fortsætte. Er det en vending mod en mere ansvarlig og gennemsigtig global skattepolitik? Det må tiden vise.

Vidste du, at EU's skatteregler kan sammenlignes med en labyrint? Mange virksomheder har navigeret gennem de komplekse regler for at finde den billigste vej. Men nu er det blevet klart, at ingen er for store til at opleve konsekvenserne af deres handlinger. En sejr for retfærdigheden, eller hvad?

Og lige præcis denne afgørelse kan have långtrækkende konsekvenser for tech-industrien. Com July er det blevet næsten en global trend, at regeringer verden over, både i Asien og Amerika, begynder at se på skatteaftaler mere kritisk. Bliver der målt tilstrækkeligt op til det gamle saying: "Størrelse betyder ikke noget, hvis det er uretfærdigt"? Kommer vi til at se flere tech-giganter i retten i fremtiden? Lige nu kan vi kun vente og se!
