Når varmen flyder ind over Arizona som en stegt fisktop, har myndighederne været hurtige til at reagere. Den Nationale Vejrservice har udsendt en Excessive Heat Warning, som trådte i kraft onsdag kl. 11.00 og strækker sig til fredag kl. 20.00. Med temperaturer der sniger sig op i den uhyggelige krone af 110°F (over 43°C), er det nu tid til alle dem, der bor i området at finde deres mest behagelige skyggeplads og en stor kande kold vand!
Men det stopper ikke ved Arizona. Santa Ynez Valley er også under påvirkning af hedebølge-virussens indflydelse. Santa Barbara County Public Health Department har udsendt en sundhedsalert, der minder alle om, at vi skal være på vagt over for hedeslag og andre varme-relaterede sygdomme. De spiller golfmelodier, men her er der tale om at spille forsvarligt!
Flere regioner rundt omkring i det sydlige Californien får også varmeplader i dagene fremover. Det kræver, at bjergelementer som Camelback Mountain og Piestewa Peak får en pause fra de eventyrlystne trækere. Med udsigt til ekstrem varme, er der blevet truffet beslutning om at lukke stier fra kl. 9 til 17, hvilket vil give en pause til både foden og himmelens eventyrere, der brænder efter at udforske.
