Rings of Power' sæson 2 er endelig landet, og fansen sidder klar med popcorn og spørgsmål. Optakten har været spændende, og mange forventer, at denne sæson vil uddybe de karakterer, som syntes flade i første sæson. Vi ser allerede de gamle kendinge som Galadriel, Nori, Arondir og Miriel komme tilbage for at give os endnu mere drama i Midgård. Men vil de klare at styrke deres bånd med seerne, eller vil de kun være glitrende ansigtstræk uden dybde?
Anmeldelserne til den nye sæson er begyndt at strømme ind, og resultaterne er blandede. Mens nogle roser showet for dets visuelle skønhed og dybere tematikker, er andre kede af, at det stadig mangler den solide grundhistorie, som Tolkien fans så desperat ønsker. "Rings of Power" har hævdet at forbedre sig i sæson 2 ved at dykke ned i karakterernes indre liv, men er det nok til at tilfredsstille den kræsne seer?
Mange kritikere er dog enige om, at showrunners har taget skridt til at gøre sæson 2 mere medrivende. Der er blevet givet plads til karakterudvikling og et forsøg på at træde væk fra blot at være en visuel fest. Alligevel bliver der også fremhævet, at plottet ofte forfaller til at være trodsigt lore-rigt, hvilket kan virke afskrækkende for dem, der ikke er dybt inde i Tolkien-universet. Hvor meget af denne lore vil gøre karaktererne relaterbare?
Så kan vi alligevel regne med en sæson 2, der ikke vil skuffe? Det virker usandsynligt, da både kritikerne og fansen synes at være enige om, at den mangler den substans, der ville kunne løfte den til nye højder. Faktisk kritiserer en del anmeldere, at skriftkvaliteten er inkonsekvent, hvilket hæmmer rækkefølgen af episoderne i fortællemæssig sammenhæng. Det ser ud til, at ‘Rings of Power’ stadig har lang vej hjem.
