99-årig Nazi-sekretær: Retten siger nej til appel – sandheden vinder!

Irmgard Furchner, 99, har mistet sin appel om dom for medvirken til over 10.000 mord under Anden Verdenskrig – en historie, der minder os om fortidens skygger!

I en opsigtsvækkende afgørelse har den tyske Føderale Domstol fastslået, at 99-årige Irmgard Furchner ikke kan appellere sin dom for medvirken til mordet på over 10.000 mennesker under hendes tid som sekretær i Stutthof koncentrationslejren under Anden Verdenskrig. Furchner blev fundet skyldig i 2022 og modtog en betinget dom på to år, hvilket har affødt både rysten på hovedet og vrede blandt dem, der husker de frygtelige forbrydelser begået under Nazi-regimet. Domstolen understregede vigtigheden af at holde retsforfølgelse af de, der har medvirket til sådanne horribelt brutale handlinger.

Furchner, som arbejdede som sekretær for SS-kommandøren i Stutthof, følte sig ikke just som en aktiv deltager i de grusomheder, der fandt sted. Hun beskriver sig selv som en uskyldig vidne til de handlinger, som blev udført af andre, men retten mente, at hun i høj grad havde været medvirkende ved at assistere og lette systemet. Det er en vanskelig debat, hvor grænsen mellem skyld og uskyld flakker – men dommen er klar: der findes ikke frihed fra ansvar, selv når man er 99 år gammel.

Retten afviste også Furchners påstand om, at hendes gerninger var ubetydelige i det store billede af krigen. Dette udsagn rammer hjem til de mange, der har lidt under de Nazi-idealer, hvor selv små handlinger kunne have enorme konsekvenser. Det er en påmindelse om, at vi ikke må glemme fortiden og de, der var involveret i de grusomheder, der fandt sted – uanset hvilken rolle de spillede. Samfundet må lære af historien og arbejde for at forhindre, at sådanne forfærdelige hændelser gentager sig.

Interessant nok, Irmgard Furchner er ikke den eneste, der har skabt overskrifter. Måske næppe overraskende, er der stadig mennesker med forbindelser til Nazi-tiden, som lever blandt os. For eksempel har mange unge mennesker i dag adgang til historiske arkiver, der kaster lys over de skjulte historier fra Anden Verdenskrig, og de inspirerer til studier og debatter om moral, ansvar og menneskehedens vilkår. Det er afgørende viden, som næres gennem en åben dialog om fortiden, som kan skabe en bedre fremtid for kommende generationer.

Så lad os ikke glemme den lektie, som Furchners sag minder os om: Ingen kan flygte fra fortiden, uanset hvor mange år der går. Vi har alle et ansvar for at huske og retfærdiggøre de skader, der er blevet påført, og for at tage ansvar for vores handlinger, så vi kan skabe en mere retfærdig og fredelig verden. Med hver stemme og hver god handling kan vi sammen give fortiden den respekt, den fortjener!
