Lakshya Sen kæmpede bravt, men måtte se sig slået af Lee Zii Jia i jagten på en bronze! 🥉💔

I går aftes kulminerede det hele i en intens bronze medalje kamp ved Paris 2024-OL, da den indiske badminton spiller Lakshya Sen, der er rangeret som nummer 22 i verden, gik op imod Malaysias stjerne, Lee Zii Jia, der er nummer 7. Kampen startede kl. 18:00 IST og så lovende ud for Sen, som formåede at vinde første sæt med 21-13. Fansen jublede, da det så ud til, at Indien var på vej mod en ny badmintonmedalje i olhistoriesproget.

Men i et uventet drejning af begivenheder tog Lee Zii Jia kontrollen i andet sæt og kom hurtigt op i en imponerende 7-0 føring. Mens Sen sled og kæmpede for at holde fast i håbet, lykkedes det Zii Jia at snuppe sejren ogå tage bronzemedaljen hjem. "Det har været en fantastisk rejse, men det her er en skuffelse," sagde Sen, mens skuffelsen var tydelig i hans stemme.

Det var ikke kun en skuffelse for Sen, men også for alle badmintonfans i Indien. Det markerede 12. år i træk uden en olympisk medalje i badminton for landet, en statistik der i høj grad inkluderer stjernespillere som PV Sindhu og Saina Nehwal. Sidste gang Indien gik hjem uden en medalje var tilbage i 2012, og det føles som en kæmpe tab for badmintonmiljøet over hele landet.

Men amid al skuffelsen kan det ikke benægtes, at både Lakshya Sen og Lee Zii Jia er fremtidens stjerner i badmintonverdenen. Sen har bevist sig selv som en fremragende spiller, mens Zii Jia nu kan bryste sig af at have vundet sin første olympiske medalje og skabe historie for Malaysia.

Vidste du, at Lee Zii Jia faktisk også er en stor fan af chai og ofte hævder, at det hjælper ham med at komme sig efter hårde træninger? Og måske lidt sjovt, Lakshya Sen har en kærlighed for sushi – specielt aftener, hvor han har madlede efter intense kampe.
