Uroen i Bangladesh tager til med udgangsforbud og skærpede sikkerhedsforanstaltninger!

Bangladesh er rystet af uroligheder og voldsomme protester, der har tvunget myndighederne til at indføre strenge udgangsforbud og skydeordrer. Demonstranter, hovedsageligt studentergrupper, har i ugevis protesteret imod et kvotesystem, der reserverer op til 30% af regeringsjob til familiemedlemmer. USA advarer personer om at genoverveje rejser til Bangladesh på grund af den borgerlige uro, hvilket har resulteret i voldelige sammenstød og demonstrationer i hovedstaden Dhaka. Curfew er blevet forlænget på tværs af landet i takt med, at landets højesteret er klar til at afgøre spørgsmålet om jobkvoteordningen. Soldater patruljerer de øde gader i Dhaka, og alle kontorer og institutioner er blevet pålagt at forblive lukkede. Dhaka og flere andre byer i Bangladesh er blevet grebet af protester imod den nye jobpolitik, der reserverer en del af regeringsjobbet til bestemte grupper. Den bangladeshiske regering har reageret ved at indføre landsdækkende udgangsforbud og udstationere hæren for at håndtere de eskalerende protester mod jobkvoterne. I en historisk beslutning har Bangladesh's højesteret søndag begrænset et kontroversielt kvotesystem for jobansøgere til regeringsjob, der har forårsaget landsdækkende optøjer. Endelig har højesteretten i Bangladesh annulleret de jobkvoter, der førte til voldelige uroligheder, hvor mere end 100 mennesker omkom, heraf 50 alene på en enkelt dag.
