Popstjernen Avril Lavigne er blandt de seneste canadiere, der er blevet udnævnt til Ordenen af Canada, som anerkendelse af hendes bidrag til den kvindelig-drevne punkrockmusik. Udover at være en musikalsk ikon roses hun også for sit engagement i at støtte personer med alvorlige udfordringer. Ud over Avril Lavigne inkluderer listen over modtagere journalister som Mellissa Fung og Joyce Napier samt kanadiske ambassadør til Vatikanet.

Den canadiske pop-prinsesse Avril Lavigne har indtaget en prominent plads i årets Ordenen af Canada-klasse, som annonceret af generalguvernør Mary Simon. Hendes navn skinner sammen med andre talentfulde canadiere, heriblandt den tidligere centralbankchef Stephen Poloz samt skuespilleren Tina Keeper. Dette års udnævnelser er fyldt med en bred vifte af talent fra musikere til magikere.
