Danmark skaber overskrifter ved at blive det første land i verden til at indføre en skat på drivhusgasser fra kvæg. Fra 2030 vil landmænd blive pålagt en årlig afgift for de klimaopvarmende emissioner, som deres køer, får og grise udleder. Mælkeproducenter i Danmark står over for at skulle betale en årlig afgift på 672 krone ($96) per ko for de planet-opvarmende emissioner, de genererer. Den danske regering går endda så langt som at opkræve en 'bøvseskat' på $100 per ko, der overskygger bilernes kulstofforurening. Fra 2030 skal landmænd betale 120 danske krone (€16) per metrisk ton udledt CO2-ækvivalent, stigende til 300 krone (€40) fra 2035 og fremefter. Danmark, der er en stor eksportør af svinekød og mejeriprodukter, viser vejen ved at pålægge en skat på kvægs kuldioxidemissioner fra 2030.
