Da hendes bror døde, kunne Mary-Anne O'Connor ikke tro, at hun nogensinde ville møde nogen, der kunne forstå hendes sorg. Men en skæbnesvanger aften til en 21-års fødselsdag ændrede alt. Anthony trådte ind i hendes liv og formåede at bære hendes smerte på en måde, hun aldrig havde forestillet sig. Hans tilstedeværelse var som et lys i mørket, der langsomt healed hendes knuste hjerte.
