Taiwan blev ramt af sit kraftigste jordskælv i næsten 25 år, med en størrelse på 7,4 på Richterskalaen. Skælvet fik flere bygninger til at kollapse i Hualien, den by tættest på epicentret, og skabte en tsunami, der skyllede i land på de sydlige japanske øer. Mere end 700 personer blev såret, og mindst 7 mennesker mistede livet på grund af dette voldsomme jordskælv. Redningsarbejdet er i gang med at forsøge at redde de mange fanget under ruinerne.

På tragisk vis efterlader det kraftige jordskælv i Taiwan syv døde, mere end 700 sårede og 77 fængslet under ruinerne. Dette skælv, det kraftigste i mindst 25 år, har høstet ødelæggelse i Hualien County og sender chokbølger gennem regionen. Det har også resulteret i, at mere end 700 personer blev såret, og tre vandrede blev dræbt.
