Putin forlænger sin regeringsperiode med seks år og har vundet Ruslands valg med en overbevisende sejr.

Putin har sikret sig endnu seks år som præsident i Rusland efter at have vundet valget med en overvældende sejr. Valget, der af vestlige lande kritiseres for dets mangel på ægthed og demokratiske principper, har cementeret Putins autoritære regime endnu engang. Den slyngede vej til Putins sejr har skabt forargelse med dets groteske kitsch og manglende ægthed. Vladimir Putin selv hylder den tvivlsomme valgsejr, mens vestlige lande kritiserer valget som en forvridning af demokratiske værdier. Til trods for kritikken fortsætter Putin ufortrødent med at udøve total kontrol over Rusland, og hans allierede, som bl.a. inkluderer Kinas præsident Xi Jinping, styrker deres bånd med ham. Putin's femte embedsperiode som præsident var forudsigelig, men spørgsmålet er nu, hvad han vil gøre med denne magt og opbakning fra en overvældende del af befolkningen.
