I en nylig interview med stats-tv beskrev Putin Joe Biden som en erfaren politiker, der fuldt ud forstår de mulige farer ved eskalation. Putin tilføjede, at Moskva er parat til at bruge atomvåben, hvis der er en trussel mod Ruslands eksistens, men understregede, at der aldrig har været behov for det.
