Arsenal 4 - 1 Leeds United FC - Match Report (Arsenal.com)

Gabriel Jesus scored his first two goals since coming back from injury to help us to a comfortable win.

Despite only joining the club in January, Leandro Trossard has the joint-second highest number of Premier League assists for us this season (7). And then on 55 minutes, Jesus doubled his tally for the afternoon. After our sluggish start to the first 45, we made amends after the restart and quickly wrapped up the points with two further goals. He first fooled his way past Kristensen and then bamboozled Ayling before he was tripped by our former academy product. Darren England pointed to the spot, allowing the Brazillian to coolly tuck the ball down the middle from 12 yards to end his long wait for a goal. Just like Bournemouth did last month, they nearly caught us cold straight from the kick-off, and Aaron Ramsdale was forced into his first save after just eight seconds when he pushed away a Kristensen strike.

Arsenal 4 Leeds 1: Gabriel Jesus bags first Gunners goals since ... (The Sun)

JESUS is well and truly back, and it's not even Easter yet.It was six months - rather than a measly three days - since Arsenal fans had seen their c.

The goal caused a bit of Arsenal anxiety on and off the pitch. From then on the home side struggled to create an opening and it was the visitors who had two chances to take the lead just after the half-hour. Jesus received the ball from Holding and then slipped it to Trossard. The Belgian - what a signing he has been, by the way - crossed back to the Brazilian, who jabbed it in for 3-0. Jesus had a chance to score in the tenth minute, but could not put a header from a Xhaka shot on target. Martinelli beat him easily and crossed to the back post where Harrison had left White to send the ball in off the bar from close range. [Bukayo Saka was left on the bench](https://www.the-sun.com/sport/7772026/bukayo-saka-out-arsenal-leeds-illness/), with Trossard moving to the right and Jesus resuming centre stage. [Leeds](https://www.the-sun.com/sport/football/team/16112/leeds-united/) sitting back and hoping to catch the hosts on the break with their lively front three. But Jesus claimed the ball and, after a little stutter in his run-up, sent the ball into the centre of the net while Illan Meslier dived right. And the tension was cranking up until Jesus won and converted a penalty just after the half hour. [dispatched Liverpool 4-1 at the Etihad](https://www.the-sun.com/sport/7772208/man-city-liverpool-grealish-de-bruyne-gundogan-alvarez/), the pressure was on Mikel Arteta’s team to respond. Ben White’s goal just after the break settled the nerves and then Jesus jabbed in a Leandro Trossard cross.

Arsenal vs Leeds, live! Score, updates, stream link, video highlights (Premier League News, Video, Scores | NBC Sports' ProSoccerTalk)

Arsenal can keep its Premier League title run going strong with a win over relegation-fighting Leeds United on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.

The loss of Haaland is obviously a huge concern for City as he suffered a groin issue and did not play for Norway over the international break and returned to Manchester for treatment. It has been a glorious sunny morning here, but the clouds are bubbling up just as the action is about to on the pitch at the Etihad. Very attacking lineup from Liverpool and they are pressing very high up the pitch. The rest of the team news is as expected. I was right in the line with that in the press box here at the Etihad and thought that was offside. Liverpool a real threat on the counter, while Man City have been a little clunky but are still carving out plenty of chances sans Haaland. The Manchester City fans at the Etihad are now doing the Poznan. His shot is blocked and the rebound falls straight to Ilkay Gundogan who slots home. Liverpool in full damage limitation mode with their trip to Chelsea coming up in midweek. FULL TIME: Manchester City 4-1 Liverpool – Well, that was rather straightforward in the end, wasn’t it? Man City head to Southampton on Saturday, April 8. In the end this was a routine win for City as they’re now on 64 points, five points behind Arsenal who play later on Saturday against Leeds.

We had a couple of moments when we lost the ball in dangerous areas.” Jesus was a revelation at the start of the season but Arteta has managed to find solutions without the Brazilian’s presence up top. “They played with a lot of organisation and desire. It was part of the context of the game and we used it in the right way. It was an issue that we had with some of the international players and players we had here but it happens. The crowd transmits energy and belief and love to the players and unconditional support. They need to feel that confidence, and the players have to prepare in the right way when they have the chance, like Rob did, and to actually perform. We have players now who need a little bit of space and freedom and those interactions I think contribute to the team and make the opponent more conscious and worried about those rotations. He’s really contributing to the team and he really takes a lot of responsibility in games to make things happen and we love that. Even on set pieces, he’s improved a lot to be more dangerous and to drive more attention to the opponent. We are really pleased with him, he can play on the right, he can play on the left, he can play as an attacking midfielder, as a nine, a false nine. He had some issues as well in the last few days but he’s a big fighter and he wanted to be here. We improved that a lot, we exploited all of the spaces and we changed a little bit the shape and position of a few players, and we were more fluid attacking in the final third very close to the box with good numbers and good positions. Obviously the way that they set up, they were really man-marking our attacking midfielders and they played with four really fast players to cut us in transition. Today he deserved the chance to start and he grabbed the opportunity with a lot of conviction and scoring two very important goals.

Perhaps the fact that Arsenal weren't really able to follow along as they made their way to the Emirates cooled their nerves. It took less than an hour for them to show devastating synchronicity -- the Belgian taking the ball from his No. Arsenal might have hoped for a favor from Jurgen Klopp against a Haaland-less opponent when the day began but ultimately time is on their side; every week where they match City's result takes them closer to a first title in 19 years. From there the contest was rather academic but that provided a platform for City to get back into their familiar groove, drawing Liverpool's flatfooted midfield out of position and zipping the ball around them. They have been Guardiola's modus operandi since coming to the Premier League; in previous years, however, his players rotated the responsibility of finishing off these flowing moves. Arsenal's home clash with Leeds looked far easier on paper but the Gunners were also going to have to get the job done in the absence of key players, not just William Saliba but Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus ends drought in easy win vs. Leeds (ESPN)

Gabriel Jesus' brace ended the longest goal drought of his career to add a further sense of momentum to Arsenal's Premier League title charge.

I didn't want to complain before the game and I do not want to complain now. We will do it in the next game and I think maybe a better result. Leeds boss Javi Gracia to the BBC on the club's battle against relegation: "I have the players that I have [fit]. [Brenden Aaronson](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/259653/Brenden-Aaronson), Leeds: Largely anonymous up front before being replaced on 65 minutes. [easing to a 4-1 win](/soccer/report?gameId=638108) -- contributed to a flat start in which, a Jesus headed chance aside, Leeds were the better team. The Gunners looked as though they may have missed his spark in a slow start but it is another nod to Arsenal's shrewd January business that Trossard replaced Saka to play an influential role in putting this game beyond Leeds. It was something of a gamble given the 21-year-old's fine form this season but he missed training on Friday through illness and Arteta deemed him not fit enough to include from the outset. His second goal was a smart finish, meeting Trossard's cross to put the game beyond Leeds. Preview: Arsenal Women v Manchester City | Match preview | News (Arsenal.com)

Following Champions League success in the week, our Gunners have a huge WSL clash against Manchester City.

Little, on the other hand, is more of a doubt for the fixture as the medical team continues to assess her injury. Our spectacular win in the Champions League on Wednesday did take a toll on our squad, as captain Kim Little was forced off after only ten minutes and Katie McCabe was substituted following a collision. As our opponents proved in the away leg, it will be no mean feat to keep them at bay. We travelled up to Manchester for a WSL meeting only a few days later and this time, City had the upper hand. Man City’s win over Chelsea last weekend had huge ramifications for a league table that has been in constant flux for months, as our game-in-hand over City and Manchester United looms. As we enter the final two months of the WSL 22/23 season, every goal, save and performance is vital to keep our title dreams alive.

If fixture congestion is to play a part in the outcome of the title, then City have the advantage. The big news is that Katie McCabe starts at left-back for Arsenal after being on crutches and in a protective boot on Wednesday night but her foot injury was only a bruise. They need a win to draw level on points with league leaders Manchester United, who won their match on Saturday 4-0 at Brighton. Arsenal are not exactly fresh from their Champions League victory over Bayern Munich, with Kim Little and Katie McCabe likely to be joining the long-term injury list. Gareth Taylor’s team play Arsenal on Sunday after the Gunners’ gruelling midweek defeat of Bayern Munich that earned their place in the semi-finals. Jonas Eidevall on Katie McCabe’s recovery and Kim Little’s injury: “Katie made a very quick recovery. And having the – let us say – combative Katie McCabe back is a bonus. Still, this is no occasion to worry about the weather. Of course, there are doubts about whether Blackstenius will actually score on any given occasion, but usually others will step up, and sometimes Foord or Maanum will have a stunner of a game. This is toughgoing for the home team. Charles Antaki writes in: “No Kim Little, and of course, no Miedema or Mead; enough to give any Arsenal fan the collywobbles. Maanum, scorer of such a great goal v Bayern, tries a shot but this one is way off, catching the wind to fly miles behind.

But in the second-half Arsenal got level as pinball in the City box resulted in the ball coming to Leonhardsen-Maanum off McCabe and the Norwegian fired home. Arsenal vs. Manchester City - Football Match Report - April 2, 2023 ... (ESPN.co.uk)

Arsenal climbed to second place in the Women's Super League table with a 2-1 comeback victory against top four rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

A goal to the good, City could have stretched their advantage against a tired-looking Arsenal team who were in midweek Champions League action. Shaw's 16th league goal of the season saw City open the scoring within five minutes at Meadow Park. On a 14-match unbeaten run in the league stretching back to September, City tried desperately to get back into the game with Shaw coming closest to an leveller when she forced a late fingertip save from D'Angelo.

Combative, decisive, resilient: Arsenal showed they are up for the ... (The Athletic)

Arsenal showed they have the fight to win the title in their win over Manchester City.

With Little’s absence requiring a more combative approach to get three points, it is fitting that McCabe’s strike was the difference on the day. My foot has been in ice for the last four days, trying to get the swelling down. They tried the same routine a minute later, Maanum was onside and won a corner, which led to the goal. “We didn’t even have her out kicking long balls yesterday to save the foot for another 24 hours. “(I was celebrating) with the girls because it’s been a real squad effort this season. Controlling the midfield, with and without the ball, for large periods of the game. I may be small, but I am strong, and I want to show that](https://theathletic.com/3577769/2022/09/08/manchester-city-transfer-hasegawa/).” She certainly did as Arsenal’s momentum grew in the second half, thriving in that direct competition with Maanum, tracking the Norwegian’s off-ball run on a counterattack and outmuscling her to win the ball despite her smaller frame. McCabe was playing in her third position of the game: left wing-back. It lifted the 3,982 sell-out crowd at Meadow Park and was exactly what Arsenal needed to be: combative and decisive. [their meeting at the Academy Stadium in February](https://theathletic.com/4185411/2023/02/13/arsenal-women-man-city-wsl/), Eidevall’s side could not get close to City in these areas. As was the case in You just need to balance around her and maybe you don’t have to do that as much with Kim.”

Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal's master of chaos (The Athletic)

The Brazilian forward brings a dynamism and unpredictability to Arsenal and it helped unlock an organised Leeds defence.

[Martin Odegaard](https://theathletic.com/football/player/martin-odegaard-hRSWwjJppH2Xn0jr/) handed him the ball to provide him with his first goal since October and in that moment of stillness, he managed to locate some poise. That is the surprise element to his game, that he only needs to be in the vicinity of the ball for defenders to be nervous that he will somehow cause something random to happen. He lives in those tiny spaces from which defensive lines were meant to have squeezed all the air. Arsenal moved up a gear after half-time and Jesus was instrumental in the third goal. [Rasmus Kristensen](https://theathletic.com/football/player/rasmus-kristensen-ZCyylrR3FExLlQV6/) to his knees. A sigh and a glance to the sky followed. It is like something is in the water, you just don’t know what. [Luke Ayling](https://theathletic.com/football/player/luke-ayling-FJy3d7wLoFQvut5q/) was next to be dared to believe in certainties. He looked up but rejected the percentage pass out wide and instead tried to force his way through a gap fit for a mouse. But Ayling desperately raised a leg to try to do something, anything, to counteract Jesus’s run and his boot connected with the Brazilian’s knee to give Arsenal the penalty they needed to take the lead. Crossing the ball into an area seemed the reasonable option but Jesus’s brain can overwrite decisions at a rate defenders struggle to comprehend. There it was, the chaos factor Arteta had been talking about on Friday.
