Introducing: The Rolex Yachtmaster 42 In RLX Titanium (HODINKEE)

A prototype surfaced years ago, and now the watch is a reality…on a bracelet.

Stay tuned for our hands-on impressions – as I can't wait to feel how light this one is. To be honest, the draw here for me is Rolex's decision to put this on a titanium bracelet. Now that it's here, though, I should have – considering the prototype was known to have existed. That means a titanium case and titanium bracelet – just like the Deepsea Challenge. Loading... That was years ago, and the watch he was wearing was a prototype on a strap.

Rolex Brings Back The Larger Explorer, Now 40mm | aBlogtoWatch (aBlogtoWatch)

In 2021 when Rolex released the 36mm Explorer, a lot of purists rejoiced that the brand had returned the model to its original size.

The Explorer is one of my personal favorites in the Rolex catalog, and I found the 36mm slightly too small for my taste. The 40mm version is powered by the same Calibre 3230 no-date movement that is present in the Explorer 36. The new case looks familiar, however, and doesn’t deviate much from the Explorer formula.

A Rolex Yacht-Master In RLX Titanium Just Dropped (Boss Hunting)

While I doubt even 0.001% of the clientele that buy the Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium will do any form of sailing, I'm here for it.

Under the deck, the Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium sports the brand’s proven calibre 3235 with a 70-hour power reserve, which has been fitted on this model since its launch in 2019. Like the Deepsea Challenge, the case of the new Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium has been crafted from a single block of the material, rated to 100m, with a satin brushed case that contrasts magnificently with highly polished chamfers. Well, folks, it’s a Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium with a deep black dial, paired with a matte black ceramic Cerachrom bezel, and it’s a low-key, monochrome, heater.

At Watches & Wonders 2023 the transparent sapphire caseback has begun its return to select Rolex watches and the Perpetual 1908 is no exception. The new Rolex Perpetual 1908 watch (or Rolex 1908 for short) features a 39mm-wide case in 18k yellow gold. Having quietly discontinued much of the Cellini line, the Rolex Perpetual 1908 is Rolex’s all-new dress watch collection.

Every year at Watches & Wonder (or Baselworld for the OGs), we take in all the new releases from Rolex. But with new additions, come discontinuations.

But considering that the Milgauss, as a brand unto itself, is one of the pinnacle Rolex sport models dating back to 1956, I doubt it will be gone for long. At least not at Watches & Wonders. Rolex's New Watches for 2023: New Daytonas, Zany Day-Dates and ... (Robb Report)

From Fresh Daytonas to an Emoji Date Wheel: Rolex's Bold New Watches Surprise and Delight · Looks like the Crown is shedding its inhibitions. · Cosmograph Daytona.

Faithful to what wowed watch-lovers on the Day-Date’s launch in 1956 (it was the first calendar wristwatch to show not only date but the day of the week, spelt out in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock), the new pieces are—natch—fitted on a President bracelet, in keeping with the “Rolex President” nickname that arose from the piece being favored by Lyndon B. Also enhancing that legibility is a Chromalight display which gives off a pleasing blue glow in poor light dark conditions but during daylight hours offers up a strikingly bright white hue. These juxtapose elegantly with the name “GMT‑Master II,” rendered on the dial in powdered yellow. The bidirectional rotatable bezel, meanwhile, is in matte black ceramic with raised numerals, complementing a black dial with a fine satin finish. Many predicted the arrival of a Daytona (or perhaps a Submariner) rendered from an alloy known for its strength and lightness. It includes a Chronergy escapement, Syloxi hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, not to mention bridges finished with Rolex Côtes de Genève (keen-eyed observers will note the polished groove between each band). All house the new calibre 4131 movement, an evolutionary step up from calibre 4130, which features bridges decorated with Rolex Côtes de Genève finishing. As it turns out, the next-gen versions of this iconic motorsport chronograph have been subject to a number of subtle aesthetic twists. Would any new releases prove as singular as the platinum iteration of the latter, introduced when it turned 50? Given what attendees beheld for the first time in Geneva today, we’d implore readers to take advantage. What impact this has on how likely those without an authorized dealer on speed-dial are to get hold of a piece remains to be seen. Would the most lauded haute horology outfit on the planet pitch a curveball to match that of last year’s “Southpaw” GMT-Master II with green and black bezel, or the titanium Deepsea Challenge that raised eyebrows in the watch-loving community a few months after it?

Although nearly all Rolex sports watches are mega-desirable items that perpetually have waiting lists at retailers, the Daytona has been the model that has typically been the most difficult to obtain at a retail level, and I can only imagine that these new models will be equally coveted by collectors. Additionally, while the clasps for the Oyster bracelets have the 5mm Easylink extension system, the Oysterflex bracelets have the brand’s Glidelock extension system, which allows for greater incremental adjustment (a necessary feature since there are no links to remove from the Oysterflex). Beyond these updates, the rest of the new Daytona models largely adheres to the design of the previous generation with a Triplock screw-down winding crown at the 3 o’clock location, flaked by a pair of screw-down pushers that help guarantee 100 meters of water resistance. The stainless steel, two-tone, and platinum models are exclusively offered on Oyster bracelets with matching Oysterlock safety clasps with the brand’s Easylink extension system, while the three different solid gold editions are available with either Oysterflex or Oyster bracelets. Everyone had a feeling that Rolex would be unveiling some type of new Daytona this year at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023, and rather than treating us to a single anniversary model, Rolex has released an entire new generation of Cosmograph Daytona watches with updated proportions and a new movement. Among the most notable anniversaries taking place this year is the 60th anniversary of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, and exactly ten years ago, Rolex unveiled a platinum Daytona with an ice blue dial and a chestnut brown ceramic bezel to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rolex’s iconic chronograph.

It says a lot for Rolex as a brand when its basic models are this good, but the bubble-fest today takes it to another level of art-as-dial or vice versa. Hands-On: The Rolex Perpetual 1908 Might Just Be The Dressy ... (HODINKEE)

Goodbye Cellini. Say hello to the dressy new Perpetual collection and the Perpetual 1908.

With the new 1908, Rolex has captured this heritage in a way I haven't seen it do in years. Besides the 1908, we (the Hodinkee "we") passed around a lot of sport watches from a handful of brands today at Watches & Wonders – Rolex, Tudor, IWC, even Lange (though The price puts the 1908 in the same neighborhood as an A. On the inside, the strap is green, another simple "Rolex being Rolex" touch. [explored before](https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/new-rolex-oyster-perpetual-34-release-you-probably-missed-introducing), it's notable to see Rolex continue down the path of using two different kinds of hairsprings across its models, and today we're seeing the Syloxi in a larger watch for the first time. And now, in a first for Rolex, the new automatic caliber 7140 can be seen through a sapphire caseback. I'll drone on about the need for smaller dress watches as much as the next guy, but I've gotta admit: I didn't mind the case size one bit. The case is polished, and while we weren't able to get any other measurements from Rolex, the watch is thin (maybe 9mm?) and has a slim profile on wrist. But there's something about a yellow-gold Rolex with a black dial that feels like giving order to a chaotic world. After wearing both for about an equal amount of time – that's about 30 minutes each, for the entirety of our one-hour meeting with Rolex – the black paired with the yellow gold was my favorite of the bunch. And man, if the first Perpetual 1908 is what we can expect for the future of the collection, we might be in for a whole new side of Rolex. Loading...
