Ford Explorer 2023: Compact, Stylish, Electric (WIRED)

This SUV gets a winning design, advanced autonomous drive features, and a spaceship-level dash. So it's a real shame it's not coming to the US.

The feel of that screen movement is a visceral message that we wanted to send about the entire car.” Leenarts claims that the screen “has a very well-damped movement, like the switches on an old hi-fi. Whatever the reason, it seems a simple and sensible idea, even if having the screen’s adjustable mount meant that it couldn’t take the physical, rotary volume dial features on the Ford There’s a certain simplicity to the design, as we took away some lines that are distracting, and we really worked on the purity. There’s also what the company describes as “a private locker” hidden behind the adjustable, 14.6-inch touchscreen. Though the Explorer majors much more on practicality, somehow Ford has managed to turn a fairly bluff front-end styling and generally boxy silhouette familiar to properly sensible family SUV into an attractive design.

Ford's Explorer EV Shows What Volkswagen Should Have Done (Forbes)

A huge risk for Ford, it is the first in a wave of EVs that it hopes will shore up its flagging European sales - and it's even being built in right-hand ...

Ford claims the Explorer will have 470 litres of luggage capacity - far more than the 385 litres Volkswagen offers in the ID.3. It’s a safe bet that the Explorer will run an MEB standard lithium-ion battery, though, with around the same 77kWh (net) that Volkswagen offers in the ID.3 and ID.4. To be built in Cologne, Germany, the Explorer will Explorer will charge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes. The SUV will be sold in Explorer and Explorer Premium specification levels, starting from €45,000, in both rear- and all-wheel drive variants. Claimed to be an amalgam of European engineering and American style, the Explorer will have two rows of seating with five seats, and should be in European showrooms by late this year. Looking more coherent and composed than any production car Volkswagen has made off the MEB (Modular Electric Platform) base, the Explorer will be engineered and built in Germany.

All-New Ford Explorer To Travel The Globe With Lexie Alford (Ford Authority)

The all-new electric Ford Explorer will travel the globe with influencer Lexie Alford behind the wheel, recreating a worldwide journey from 100 years ago.

“Aloha Wanderwell’s story is particularly inspiring for female travelers, but it truly encourages everyone to push their limits and explore new places,” Alford said. Wanderwall, by comparison, started her journey at the age of 16 in Nice, France, and saw her eventually complete that mission after winding up in Kilindini Harbour, Mombasa. Though it shares nothing in common with its ICE counterpart – other than its name – Ford is keen to push the fact that this is a vehicle designed to “explore,” and in that sense, it has teamed up with travel adventure influencer Lexie Alford – otherwise known as Lexie Limitless – to celebrate a very notable milestone.

Does First Electric Ford Explorer Have What It Takes For European ... (Forbes)

Ford has released an all-electric Explorer, meant primarily for Europe. Is it another me-too SUV or will it compete in an increasingly crowded market?

But it could have its work cut out competing with the Tesla Model Y, which starts around the same price for the Rear-Wheel Drive model, which is likely to have more range and performance at this cost level. The electric Ford Explorer looks like another nicely appointed electric SUV. The UK price is expected to start around £45,000 ($55,000), which is in the same ballpark too. The electric Ford Explorer that was launched in London is much smaller than the American car it shares a name with – over two feet (60cm) shorter, 5in (13cm) narrower, and 7in (18cm) less tall. Perhaps the biggest irony is that the Ford Explorer will be competing against cars from the Volkswagen Group using the same MEB platform, such as the Volkswagen ID. 5, electric Skodas, [electric Cupras](https://www.whichev.net/2022/05/13/cupra-born-2022-review/), and the [Audi Q4 e-tron](https://www.whichev.net/2021/09/27/audi-q4-e-tron-2021-review/). The Ford Explorer is a legendary vehicle, although not to be confused with the giant Ford Expedition driven by Jack Bauer in the TV series “24”. Drop the rear seats down, and this only expands to 1,400 liters (49 cubic feet). But the huge 14.6in portrait orientation central infotainment screen is much more in line with the Mustang Mach-E. The overall impression inside and out was a well-thought-out vehicle with promise. Although Ford was coy about this at the launch itself, the Explorer is based on Volkswagen’s MEB electric platform. The most recent internal combustion Explorer is about a foot shorter, albeit still a large SUV in the American style.
