Although Quan was able to book “Everything Everywhere,” he still had difficulties finding work after production wrapped, he said on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” last month. His career began with the 1984 blockbuster hit “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” in which he played Indiana Jones’ kid sidekick, Short Round. [“Actors Roundtable”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJH2EyvvEBA) on Tuesday. The distinction makes Quan, who is Chinese Vietnamese, the second actor of Asian descent to win in his category. Before that, he took home the best supporting actor award at the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Movie Awards and the Gotham Awards, among others. He previously won outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, becoming the first Asian to win in the category.

"Spielberg was the first person to put an Asian face in a Hollywood blockbuster," he said. "If you were to take 100 scripts, there was a high probability that none of them would feature any meaningful Asian characters. On paper, the film is a tough sell. Three weeks later, Quan was on his way to Sri Lanka to start shooting the film. But as the 90s wore on, the offers began to dwindle. I wanted to be up there along with my fellow Asian actors. Quan didn't intend to audition, but the casting director suggested "My journey started on a boat. They would make fun of us when we were in school. Pauley Shore, Ke Huy Quan and Brendan Fraser all stared together in the 1992 comedy 'Encino Man.' Now two of them are Oscar-winning actors.

“Mom, I just won an Oscar!” he shouted when he first took the stage. “I don’t know if you guys saw the the Academy Awards last night, but Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at me in the monologue,” Shore wrote. Quan had a supporting role in the film as a high school student named Kim. “I spent a year in a refugee camp. Fraser took home the Oscar for best actor thanks to his acclaimed performance in “The Whale,” while Ke Huy Quan won best supporting actor for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which also took home the best picture trophy along with six other Oscars. “What an incredible night it must be for the two of you, and what a very difficult night for Pauly Shore.
