Gone But Not Forgotten: Tata Estate (EVO India)

After starting their car-making journey with the Sierra, TELCO launched the Tata Estate replete with Mercedes-Benz W123 estate-inspired styling.

So while the Sierra eventually got the [turbo-diesel](https://www.evoindia.com/search?q=turbo-diesel), the Estate was left to languish on its own until the plug was pulled in 2000. Lacking the cool quotient of the Sierra, you tend to look at the Estate very objectively. In fact one wonders what prompted [Tata Motors](https://www.evoindia.com/search?q=Tata%20Motors), or [TELCO](https://www.evoindia.com/search?q=TELCO) as they were then known, to be so bold (or foolhardy), to kick off their car-making journey with a three-door [SUV](https://www.evoindia.com/search?q=SUV). With the same 207’s wheelbase, a whopping 425mm more than the Sierra, the Estate was massive — a full 4.6 metres in length, and that meant lots of space for five and lots of space for all their luggage. You can punch the body panels and your knuckles will break but the body won’t dent. [pickup](https://www.evoindia.com/search?q=pickup) [platform](https://www.evoindia.com/search?q=platform) as the base, the Sierra would be the hero car — the cool, outdoorsy SUV on a shortened wheelbase — but alongside would sit something more sensible and practical, the Tata Estate.

If you have to choose from a percentage gain perspective, the possibility that Tata Motors will gain more gains is greater simply because of the fact that as a turnaround happens, the operating leverage tends to play out. One stock which I bought initially and then increased our allocations is a company called So, the order books get translated into actual execution over periods of three, five, seven years and to that extent, some earnings have been below expectations be it from Bharat Electronics or They have already delivered some Rs 700 crore of profits in the first nine months. Issue I reported year ago is yet to be resolved by Tata service centre (Team-BHP)

Coming from a Swift Dzire diesel, I was enjoying my new Tata Altroz petrol. But only after 7 days of ownership, I encountered this issue.

I had not done any changes to the Intake system until recently when I opted in for a free-flow conical air filter instead of the stock box. Because I cannot accurately recreate this issue, it is very hard to present it to Tata, on my recent trip they cleaned my spark plugs due to some misfire the system caught and also blatantly blamed my air intake setup. The technician said the error was memorised by the ECU and was not a straight-out failure of a component. I am closing in on my warranty end and I need this sorted out before I have to pay for the fixes. The next day Tata sends a rescue unit to test the car and check for any DTC errors. It switched back to city mode, limited revs to around 2k and had the check engine light on.

Tata group will build Air India as the mother brand of its airline business, which will have both full-service as well as low-cost carriers.

Ten months later, in November, Air India announced that it acquired the entire stake of its joint venture partner Malaysia's AirAsia Group in AirAsia India (AAI) to integrate it with low-cost carrier Air India Express (AIXL). The 154-year-old group, which founded Air India during the time of JRD Tata, had acquired the debt-burdened airline for ₹18,000 crore in January 2022. "We have a big plan for Air India, but it will take time. Vistara is a full-service airline and has created a brand for itself. The group has already announced the integration of Vistara and AirAsia with Air India for which the legal process has started. In an interaction with Fortune India, chairman N Chandrasekaran says the group will keep the Air India as the flagship brand and that the airline is on its way to turn profitable.
