Gil's return to Spain will be something to watch as he was struggling for playing time at Tottenham but his skill on the ball suits Spanish soccer well. It was one of four prominent deals caught up in paperwork around the world but it could be an important one as Barcelona are quite thin at right back for the remainder of the season. Their strength has been in a strong defense that has allowed only seven goals this season but Sevilla have also improved after Jorge Sampaoli took over in October.

Raphinha, Kessie shine as Barcelona put Real Madrid on heels (ESPN)

Barcelona moved to a comfy 8-point lead over Real Madrid on the LaLiga table after thrashing Sevilla on Sunday.

Raphinha completed the scoring himself after good work from [Frenkie de Jong](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/219022/Frenkie-de-Jong) and Alba. [Sergio Busquets](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/121893/Sergio-Busquets) earlier in the game. With [Manchester United](/soccer/team?id=360) in the Europa League around the corner -- and [Ousmane Dembele](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/229744/Ousmane-Dembélé) already injured -- they could do without losing any more players. Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli on the result: "We held Barca off in the first half but in the second half we needed more. [Sevilla](/soccer/team?id=243) could not stop him for a short period of the game. [Jordi Alba](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/121021/Jordi-Alba) opened the scoring just before the hour mark after good work from [Franck Kessie](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/194711/Franck-Kessié). After a first half in which they failed to break down a [Sevilla](/soccer/team?id=243) side that sat deep, [Barcelona](/soccer/team?id=83) opened the floodgates after the break. Xavi on Barcelona leading Real Madrid by eight points on the table: "It's not definitive, not at all, but we are in a privileged position. Both impressed against [Sevilla](/soccer/team?id=243), though, with performances would could signal a turning point in their Barca careers. He displayed nice footwork throughout the game, helped in defence and attack and produced a Ronaldinho-esque pass to set up Alba's goal. [Raphinha](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/231050/Raphinha) created the second for [Gavi](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/323702/Gavi) and then added the third himself from Alba's cross to complete the scoring and extend Barca's winning streak in all competitions to seven games, their longest since the 2019-20 season. [Barcelona](/soccer/team?id=83) scored three times in 21 minutes in the second half as they beat relegation-troubled [Sevilla](/soccer/team?id=243) by [3-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday](/soccer/report/_/gameId/643967).

FC Barcelona 3-0 Sevilla: Player Ratings And What We Learned (Forbes)

FC Barcelona went eight points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga after beating Sevilla 3-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday night.

Provided a lovely and clever assist for Alba with an outside of the foot dink, capping his best performance for Barca since joining from AC Milan on a free transfer. Quick feet and a cool pass to Raphinha drew a cheer from the crowd. Came out for the second half with a spring in his step and moved more central as Kounde covered the right, but again ticked Xavi off when squandering another peach of an Alba cross at the back post. Xavi was angry with him when he made little of Gavi opening up the park in midfield and palming it off him down the right flank with half an hour gone. Should have done better when given the reins on a dangerous late first half move and needed to find Gavi sooner. Was a constant threat and the pay off was his goal on 70 minutes, his first in the '6' shirt, when Raphinha found him at the back post. Always looking to connect play and thread through the final ball but was pretty anonymous in the first half. Had a bright early starting controlling the tempo, but started to lose the midfield battle in a good 10 minute spell for Sevilla with around 35 down on the clock. He was the architect of one of Barca's most promising first half moves connecting well with Raphinha, only for Lewandowski to be too slow trying to bring Gavi into action. Came out for the second half despite suffering a nasty tackle and was strong until the end. With a quarter of an hour gone, he was unlucky not to find Lewandowski in the box with a defended cross and another ball of his was threatening from the resulting corner. Had little to nothing to do for most of the game save for being alert on a couple of counter attacks that amounted to nothing, and having to get Barca's play restarted when the ball was passed back to him.
