“It was a happy feeling to know that the snake was alive and coming around,” Zimmer said. “We took the snake inside, and I got some wood and Patrick started a fire,” Dority said. “When a python is exposed to the cold, its body starts to shut down,” he said. “I’ve gone on a lot of calls like these, and they’re usually three-foot pythons,” he said. “She was probably living her best life down there until it got cold.” “The snake didn’t seem to like that,” he noted. “The snake looked dead to us, but Raven reached out and touched it, and we were surprised when it moved,” he added. They decided to take the python to Dority’s house because he lived the closest. “Rescuing the snake seemed like the right thing to do.” They were not afraid of getting bitten or constricted, because the snake was moving slowly in the cold, Fortune said. She was struggling to survive.” We figured it was gone.”

Almost 4000 Snakes Rule This Brazilian Island (Discover Magazine)

Off the Brazilian coast, the island Ilha da Queimada Grande is home to almost 4000 golden lancehead snakes. Folklore says pirates used the snakes to protect ...

“The idea that it is exceptionally deadly is most likely a myth.” This is almost entirely due to its large population of serpent: the [golden lancehead](https://a-z-animals.com/animals/golden-lancehead/). Mackessy, a professor who specializes in evolution, ecology and toxinology at the University of Northern Colorado’s School of Biological Sciences. While they are relatively abundant on the island, the fact they only exist here means they are considered [critically endangered on the IUCN Red List](https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/2917/123180264). [bottlenecks](https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/genetic-bottleneck) [low population numbers], which reduce genetic diversity. This rise caused Ilha da Queimada Grande to separate from mainland Brazil, which meant its snakes went down a different evolutionary path than their continental cousins. An old Brazilian story suggests Ilha da Queimada Grande’s snake population is the direct consequence of some inventive pirates’ and their ploy to discourage people from finding their buried loot. Mackessy says the golden lancehead is undoubtedly a threat to the island’s birds – but what about humans? “Nothing that I have seen suggests that the golden lancehead represents a greater risk to humans than many other species of Bothrops pit vipers – many of which grow considerably larger,” Mackessy says. According to Mackessy, because of the small habitat of the island and abundance of birds – which are prey to these snakes – the size, venom and color pattern of the snakes evolved differently. “[The golden lancehead] is an island species that appears most closely related to a mainland form – the [ [Snake Island](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/snake-infested-island-deadliest-place-brazil-180951782/),” is a jut of oceanic rock that measures some 43 hectares (106 acres), and most people — including decision-makers in the Brazilian government — consider it uncommonly treacherous.

Epic Battles: Great White Shark vs. the Most Venomous Sea Snake (AZ Animals)

The great white shark is an incredibly dangerous creature that can deliver vicious bites to its foes. Not many animals in the sea pose much of a threat to ...

Once the great white shark attacks, the fight is essentially over. The great white shark is faster than the most venomous sea snake. That would see the shark killing the snake and succumbing to the venom later. The sea snake would probably be less inclined to start a fight with a great white shark or use its venom on a creature it can’t eat. The great white shark is an ambush hunter that can find prey from far off, close the distance, and issue a deadly bite. The great white shark is also renowned for its bite, but this animal has far larger teeth and more jaw power. Meanwhile, even if the most venomous sea snake could bite through the shark’s tough skin and deliver venom, the shark could always win a pyrrhic victory. The average great white shark weighs between 1,200 and 2,400 pounds while measuring between 10 and 21 feet long! Meanwhile, the great white shark can accelerate to 25 to 35 mph while on the hunt. Of course, the shark also has incredible hunting senses, so it will be harder to take by surprise than most creatures. Today, we’re going to see what would happen in a fight between a great white shark vs. We’ll examine this potential battle and demonstrate what would happen if the two creatures met in a fight.
