However, a 2-1 defeat at home to Brentford has thrown a spanner in the works for Guardiola's side. Dexter Lembikisa lost the ball to Gabriel Martinelli, who teed up Oleksandr Zinchenko to cross. The Brazil international, without a goal in his previous 10 games, then wasted a promising opening when he volleyed wide off Ben White’s cross. Wolves will be in last place at Christmas — league play resumes on Dec. It was the first time the visitors wriggled in behind Wolves and when a delightful ball from Jesus gave Vieira space in the box, his cross was turned in by Odegaard from close range. From then, it was comfortable for the Gunners and Odegaard added a second with 15 minutes left. A driving run from Saka created a chance for Jesus and, with a hint of offside, the striker hit the bar with 10 minutes of the half remaining.
Martin Odegaard scored twice to give Arsenal a five-point lead atop the Premier League table following a 2-0 win over Wolves at the Molineux on Saturday.

The Gunners head into the World Cup break five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
You can’t drop points to the team at the absolute bottom of the table. The Brazilian cleverly backheeled it to Alex Zinchenko, who took his time to pick out a cross instead of lumping into the box. They were much more secure on the ball and overloaded the wide areas to create space and mismatches. They sat back, stayed in formation, and waited for the Gunners to make a mistake. You can chalk some of that up to the weirdness of this match coming so close to the World Cup — guys looked a bit hesitant to go all out at times. It was an impressive second 45 from Mikel Arteta’s squad after an opening stanza where Wolves’ defensive shape and discipline stymied the Arsenal attack, and everything looked just a bit off.
After seeing us beat Wolves 2-0 to go five points clear at the top of the table, Mikel Arteta faced the media for the final time before the World Cup break.
This week, I think it was very tricky because there were too many things around the World Cup and certain individuals, but the boys did what they had to do. After that, we will try to prepare him in the best possible way. And the rest [will] just fulfil a dream that every kid has had, when they had a chance to represent their national team in a World Cup. We have to reflect on what we are doing, and be very much prepared for what is going to come after the World Cup. But, our aim is to play better as a team every single day; to have better tools to do what we want to do on that pitch. We have to use the time now in the best possible way so the players who are not participating in the World Cup, they will have some time off, which they fully deserve.
