Sadio Mané finished second in the 2022 Ballon d'Or, only ranking behind unstoppable Karim Benzema. The Bayern Munich winger offers each family in the village a monthly support package of almost $70 and has also awarded nearly $400 bonus to the top pupils in the village high school. In a few months span, he invested nearly a million dollars in the building of infrastructure, including a school.

Sadio Mane has won the maiden Socrates Award, with the Bayern Munich forward being recognised for his humanitarian work.

Prior to that, he is expected to lead the Bavarians’ attack against Augsburg in a German Cup fixture. Mane built a public hospital and funded schools and families in his home village of Bambali last year, and also donated to the Senegalese National Committee to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic. The prize is named after Brazil football icon Socrates - who co-founded the Corinthians Democracy movement, in opposition to the ruling military government in 1980s Brazil.

Sadio Mane has received France Football's inaugural Socrates Award, in recognition of his charity work in his native Senegal.
