The Google Pixel 7 Pro's display draws an obscene amount of power (Android Police)

Testing reveals power draw is about twice the wattage of similar displays at certain brightness levels.

The Samsung phone only draws more than 4W at a brightness of more than 1100 nits, which is considerably brighter than the Pixel 7 Pro at 600 nits. We can corroborate these findings with a Pixel 7 Pro of our own, which exhibits the same high power draw found by XDA. The Pixel 6 Pro hits 4W of power consumption at 800 nits, which is still brighter than the Pixel 7 Pro. [XDA ran a number of tests](https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-7-pro-display-problem/) on the Pixel 7 Pro in order to find out how efficient it is, corroborated by Android Police. A display test then revealed that the Pixel 7 Pro draws about 3.5 to 4W at full regular brightness (about 600 nits), depending on which other components of the phone are active at the same time. [Google Pixel 7](https://www.androidpolice.com/google-pixel-7-review/) and 7 Pro are now available for purchase and our reviews are live to give you an impression of what you can expect.

Google Pixel 7 Pro (TrustedReviews)

The Google Pixel 7 Pro is a strong value proposition compared to other big smartphone releases in 2022. Here's our full review.

The Pixel 7 Pro costs £849 / €899 – making this far more affordable than the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max in Europe. You’re after a smaller phone: The Pixel 7 Pro is big – even more so than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is a refined Pixel 6 Pro, with a design that’s comfier to grip and a more capable chipset. There’s very little to get excited about with the battery life and endurance of the Pixel 7 Pro. There’s support for chargers up to 30w, though a full charge took me 80-90 minutes and of course there’s no charger in the box. Of course, no one buys a phone purely for its HDR reproduction and the Pixel 7 Pro still does an admirable job. This doesn’t just work with new photos snapped on the Pixel either, and I used it to improve a number of older photos I have previously scanned into my Google Photos library from physical photos. It’s a lot quicker at shooting good photos at night, and while I often preferred the iPhone 14 Pro’s results, the Pixel is a little more reliable if you don’t have time to set up your shots. As my colleague Peter Phelps noted in his Pixel 7 review, the Camera Bar is a shelf for dust and debris. Google made a bold change with its Pixel 6 series, ditching the fairly non-descript designs of the series past and replacing them with something a whole lot more fun and interesting. The Google Pixel 7 Pro is a strong value proposition compared to other big smartphone releases in 2022. The Pixel 7 Pro continues that theme.

Google Pixel 7 Pro hands-on review (Digital Camera World)

The Pixel 7 Pro upgrades the zoom and ultra-wide cameras while introducing Google's Tensor G2 power.

With a 26mm wide-angle and matched with Google’s smart camera software, the main camera is identical to those of the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 7, and 7 Pro. Powered by a Tensor G2 chipset, Google's second generation of proprietary silicon, if our week with the Pixel 7 is anything to go by, the 7 Pro should be powerful enough for most, but not hardcore gamers thinking about a gaming phone. At 6.7 inches, the Pixel 7 Pro's screen is large – similar in size to the Oppo Find X5 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro. The Honor Magic 4 Pro is the only one of the three with a camera mix that can rival Google's Pixel 7 Pro – more specifically, adding a periscope zoom to the mix. Loaded up with OIS, PDAF, and an f/3.5 aperture, it'll be interesting to see how the 7 Pro performs. The 7 Pro's also got competition from its predecessor, the Pixel 6 Pro which costs even less, and is also excellent. There's nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to the 7 Pro's buttons and ports – a USB-C port at the base alongside a loudspeaker. One good thing Google does across all its recent launches, from the Pixel 6a through to the 7 Pro, is offer IP68 water resistance, so it's still hardier than some of the competition. Just like the Pixel 6 series, the On first impression, the Google Pixel 7 Pro is like that popular kid in school who's effortlessly fun, and athletic, and still gets straight As.

In the table below, you can see how the Google Pixel 7 Pro stacks up against the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and the Google Pixel 6 Pro. To contextualize the problem, the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s Tensor G2 likely has a TDP of around 10-12W. However, I’ve verified that I have the same problem and the display is staying on for roughly a second after I turn off the screen. I have noticed the same problem on my unit as well, and it was only when I saw this Tweet did I realise that it was the cause. Dylan pointed out to me that if you were to extend his Google Pixel 6 Pro display power consumption graph in the same direction that it was already going, you would basically cross over the same values that we’re experiencing on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Dylan noted that the power values I collected for using the display at its lowest brightness are still on the high side, with it draining roughly 0.7W. Google Pixel 7 Pro I spoke to Ben Sin, Daniel Bader, and Manuel Vonau of Android Police — three people who have Google Pixel 7 Pro units that are sourced from PR in different regions of the world. This is indicative of a larger problem that Google has had in the past with its panels, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro appears to have only made the situation worse. It gets even worse though: with maximum brightness (the Google Pixel 7 Pro is rated up to 1500 nits, and I triggered high-brightness mode), its power consumption shoots up to 6W. [Google Pixel 7 series](https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-7-pro/) was released recently, and we’ve been spending a lot of time with both the Pro and the non-Pro. The problem is that the power draw seems really disproportionate.

Make your purchase before October 23rd and Amazon will throw in a free $200 gift card, which is plenty of cash to spend on a quality case or Pixel Watch. T-Mobile is getting in on the action by offering an exciting deal that'll drop the price of the Pixel 7 down to just $99 when you activate a line with an eligible data plan. [Visible](https://www.androidcentral.com/visible-review) (opens in new tab) is an affordable prepaid carrier that's powered by Verizon's massive network. The deal gets even sweeter if you're a new Verizon customer, since they'll give you an additional $200 for switching over from a competing carrier. The gift card can be used at a ton of retailers from all over the web, from Amazon to Uber Eats. Customers who buy the Pro will also get a free $200 e-gift card to spend on goodies at Best Buy, simply for placing the order. I'm talking about an always-on 90Hz display (120Hz for the Pro), up to 72 hours of battery life, and the most intelligent Pixel camera software yet.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find apps that don’t have any 64-bit libraries, and so far, Flappy Bird seems to be the most high-profile. All apps on the Google Play Store have [had to have 64-bit support since August 2019](https://www.xda-developers.com/google-play-stop-serving-native-apps-without-64-bit-cpu-support/), and the company [stopped serving 32-bit apps that don’t have any 64-bit support last year](https://www.xda-developers.com/google-play-stop-serving-native-apps-without-64-bit-cpu-support/). “arm64-v8a” support is listed, but It’s not as if Tensor G2 doesn’t support it either — its three different cores all support AArch32 execution. What this means is that for any apps that don’t have 64-bit libraries, you won’t be able to install them. The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are the first Android phones to only support 64-bit apps

Google Pixel 7 review: 4 features we love and 2 we don't (Inverse)

Google's $599 Pixel 7 Android phone not only undercuts the iPhone 14 by $200, but has a larger display, superior cameras, and a SIM card slot.

Of course, the elephant in the room is how well the Pixel 7 holds up long term. At least at launch, the Pixel 7 is an excellent value. From the unibody aluminum frame that now connects to the camera bar to the performance, cameras, and battery life, Google really knocked it out of the park with the Pixel 7. Not that the Pixel 6 didn't have a bright screen, but the display on the Pixel 7 is brighter. Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 7 is very good at processing HDR photos. It's $200 less for the same 128GB storage, and you get a larger screen. What may surprise you is that this has been a documented thing since at least the Pixel 4. In fairness, Google did add a Face Unlock feature to the selfie camera. In challenging lighting (mostly indoors around LED lights), the Pixel 7 camera always processes photos with a bluer white balance. Google's Tensor G2 chip inside of the Pixel 7 is faster at processing images with more accurate color and greater details; Night Sight doesn't require you to hold the phone as long. Google kicked off the age of computational photography with the Pixel 2, but again the build quality lacked. The scrolling responsiveness is noticeable when you compare it to phones that are still saddled with 60Hz refresh rates (looking at you

It’s not cheap and it’s a little bulky, but the vCommute Google Pixel 7 Wallet Case is definitely slimmer than carrying a phone and a wallet separately. Sure, it’s not as colorful as your Pixel 7 might be, but it still looks great in either color option. Let’s be honest: The Google Pixel 7 is an attractive, unique looking phone. The case isn’t quite as protective as the Otterbox, but it balances protection and style in a way that nothing else on this list can. If you’re an Android fan and in the market for a new phone, you might be eyeing either the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro. If you’re prone to dropping your phone or simply want to make sure that there’s no chance it will break or get scratched, then the Otterbox Defender Series Pro Hard Shell for Pixel 7 is the way to go.
