Tottenham Hotspur v Eintracht Frankfurt: Champions League – live (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Who will bank the points in one of the Champions League's tightest groups? Join Gregg Bakowski.

Lindstrom picks up possession and whips a cross in to Kamada, but the ball bounces up high and the forward, unmarked in the box, can’t get a clean connection. Lucas Moura returns to the bench after a lengthy injury absence with a tendon issue. The Spurs and Eintracht fans are making quite a din. My expectation is to play a really good game and get three points.” On picking Sessegnon over Perisic: “Sessegnon is a player I think is growing in an important way and now I think today he was the best choice to start with.” On whether he has set Spurs up to be more expansive in their attacking play: “We try to score because if we don’t score we don’t win. With the group so tight, this is a big one. 11 min: Kane attempts to find Son at the back post but N’Dicka stretches out a long leg and hooks the ball away athletically. 6 min: Sessegnon hoiks a looping cross into the box that drops from a great height at the back post. Hojbjerg shuffles down the right wing and lifts a floated cross to the middle of the penalty area where Son backs off and waits and watches. Kane tries to curl it into the top corner, but it’s at least a foot over. The goalkeeper gets a finger to it, but the power takes it past him. 45 min: The Eintracht fans are still making a decent noise but it lacks the hope of earlier chanting. Then Spurs break and Emerson takes an extra touch in the box when he could square to Kane, allowing Eintracht to clear for a corner.

Son Heung-min struck twice as Tottenham bolstered their bid to reach the Champions League last 16 with a 3-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

Son Heung-min struck a brilliant volley to increase Tottenham's lead over Frankfurt in the Champions League having gone a goal behind in the 14th minute.

They host Everton in Saturday's late kick-off in the Premier League before a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in a week's time. THE BIGGER PICTURE: Presuming Tottenham hold on for all three points, it is a huge result for Antonio Conte's side, having only picked up four points in their first three Champions League games. However, a calm finish from Son and a Harry Kane penalty completed the turnaround.

Tottenham get Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt (ESPN)

Son Heung-Min inspired Tottenham to a crucial victory as Antonio Conte's side held it together against last season's Europa League winners.

All four teams in the group have showcased their best and worst, so it would be foolish to predict how it will all turn out. The Tottenham forward was sensational and made his early-season form slump seem a distant memory. From that point on, Spurs were in control, and they produced a mature performance to eventually overcome a Frankfurt team built in their own image -- three at the back and plenty of pace in forward positions. [Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/159543/Pierre-Emile-Hojbjerg)'s cross put the game beyond Frankfurt, but while he didn't score or create any of Tottenham's goals, Richarlison's contribution was hugely important for Antonio Conte's team. With each team picking up at least one win so far, it is the tightest of all eight groups this season, and the table could be turned on its head again on matchday five next week. It left his team with an impossible mountain to climb. Kane, Son and Richarlison now have 16 goals between them this season, and while Kane has more than half of them (9), the collective strength of Conte's front three was evident against Frankfurt. On the contrary, they held their nerve and equalised through Son within six minutes of Frankfurt's opener. When the Bundesliga side took a 14th-minute lead through Kamada, it looked like bad news for Spurs against a side that had won six of its past seven European away games. The old "Spursy" tag has faded in recent years, but under Antonio Conte, it doesn't apply, and we saw proof of that against Eintracht Frankfurt. Heung-min Son and Harry Kane scored the goals to take Spurs top of Group D.

Come the knockout stages -- which Spurs are well placed to reach, leading Sporting and Marseille by a point -- it may be that Tottenham actually get more opportunities to play in the spaces their ambitious opponents leave behind, just as Frankfurt did on the night. Tottenham's inability to break down a more defensive team turned what ought to have been a breeze into an unduly stressful finale where Bryan Gil won a penalty that Harry Kane blazed over before a late siege of the Tottenham goal from Frankfurt. Though those signs of a burgeoning connection with the new signing are welcome, their frontline still lacks the verve and imagination that Dejan Kulusevski offers. Having won in Seville, Barcelona and London en route to last season's Europa League crown, this visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for what Sebatian Rode termed "almost a knockout match" held little fear for Eintracht Frankfurt. LONDON -- Two goals clear, a man to the good, Tottenham were coasting to the top of Group D. In the near half hour between Tuta's red card for hauling Son to the ground and Faride Alidou's dramatic header, Tottenham let the game drift.

Here are our Tottenham Hotspur player ratings after their 3-2 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Fired home clinically to bring Spurs level and had a claim for a penalty not long after. Blazed a late penalty over the crossbar which knocks his mark down by one and he had a big late chance to set up Gil. Another excellent performance and another display of his attacking play as he burst down the right and delivered a perfect cross for Son to volley home in the first half. Was beaten in the air though for Frankfurt's second goal. Very little going forward but a couple of good tackles in the box. Saw a header saved by the keeper right at the end of the first half.

Tottenham 3-2 Frankfurt: Spurs survive late scare in strong attacking ... (Cartilage Free Captain)

Lenglet came back in for Ben Davies, and Emerson Royal for Matt Doherty. Yves Bissouma dropped back to the bench for Richarlison, lining up alongside Harry Kane ...

The contact was soft, but it was a foul and enough for the referee to award a penalty. Dier was clearly culpable for the first Frankfurt goal, but there were another couple of similar occasions that could have led to Frankfurt chances. Spurs had yet another chance to finish things as Kane drove down the left, but his cross was inches from the head of Bryan. Hugo Lloris saved comfortably, and that was enough for Tottenham to take all 3 points and go top of their group with a 3-2 win. Tottenham continued to knock on the door with an excellent run by Son winning a foul to the left of the Frankfurt 18-yard box, as well as a yellow card for Tuta. There was a mild penalty shout as he nutmegged a Frankfurt defender and looked to get to the ball, but Spurs had to settle with a free kick won by Royal outside the box. Emerson Royal played a nice pass into Harry Kane, who turned and played a beautiful ball in to the onrushing Son. Spurs had looked shaky playing out of the back, and an atrocious touch by Eric Dier in his own box was picked up by Lindstrom, before deflecting to Rode making a late run. Son has struggled with his touch at times this season, but this time he controlled the ball beautifully, running in behind the Frankfurt defence and firing past keeper Trapp to level the scores. Tottenham had an early chance of their own after a deflected Sessegnon cross looped high to keeper Kevin Trapp, who was very casual in claiming the ball. Some big news though was the return of Lucas Moura to the squad, fit again and riding the pine. Ryan Sessegnon was absolutely clattered in the Tottenham half and Frankfurt broke forward, with an early cross finding Kamada in acres of space in the box; however, his touch was poor and the attack came to nothing.

Know your Tottenham opponent: Everton (Cartilage Free Captain)

Spurs will look to make it a third-straight victory in all competitions against Everton on Saturday.

It is understood that Spurs will invite pressure and look to take advantage on the counter, but Everton do not mind doing that either at times. Tell us your thoughts on the player and what he has provided to Everton in his short time at the club. Seamus Coleman will have his hands full at times but everyone on this side tracks back and contributes, so I expect to see that once again. Young players like Ellis Simms, Lewis Dobbin and many others do get supporters excited to be sure, but it will become greater when they feature for the first team instead of on loan with other sides. Tottenham represents different challenges than United, and the Blues will have to keep an eye out for the counter when it comes. On top of this, Nathan Patterson has had a good start to the season. While they have been a potent combination for this team this season, getting the likes of Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina back from injuries will allow for each player to more effectively impact the side alongside either Coady or Tarkowski, while the other rests during the more hectic parts of the campaign. As Spurs turn their attention back to the Premier League, they will once again be at home against a team to which they are superior. Pundits were not as kind universally, but a few saw that the Blues had more to offer than they had shown last year. Ultimately, they were able to win the match while also being able to take out some of their bigger-named players to conserve their fitness levels ahead of Saturday’s match against Everton. But a goal came from nothing off a corner kick and Spurs came awfully close to conceding a back-breaking, tying goal in the final minutes. In the past three games, Spurs have started to become a bit more positive in their approach, perhaps due to Antonio Conte utilizing different tactics as well as new players being brought into the fold.

Everton at Tottenham: The Opposition View | Blues look to get back ... (Royal Blue Mersey)

Traveling to north London is never too easy, and against Antonio Conte's Tottenham Hotspur, Frank Lampard and company will have to play a bright and positive ...

Regardless, I see this as a game where Spurs are much more accustomed to the way they play and the difference in quality will be shown. He is such a capable presser and is so smooth on the ball. I liken him as the first player off the bench as he can provide a stick of dynamite if Spurs need a goal or can run all day and stretch defenses when Spurs are defending and hitting the opposition on the counter. He is not the fastest player by any means, but he is so strong on the ball and extremely creative especially when cutting inside into the half spaces. He is such a dynamic player and profile as a left-footed attacking player on the right side. This is primarily due to the fact that Spurs do not get a lot out of ball-progressive capabilities from the midfield duo of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. That is why it has taken time for summer incomings like Yves Bissouma and even Djed Spence to come into the fold on a more consistent basis.
