OUT: Christian Norgaard (achilles) Brentford sit 9th in the Premier League table, even after only seven games, is no small achievement for a tiny club that only made its PL debut a year ago. The game’s biggest moment came in the 20th minute, when Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer appeared to slide through Bournemouth left back Jordan Zemura.

Bournemouth denied penalty, held 0-0 by Brentford in EPL (The Washington Post)

Bournemouth has been left fuming after it was denied a penalty kick in a 0-0 draw with Brentford in the English Premier League.

The last-gasp skirmish should not have yielded a penalty, but Bramall struggled to control the situation as Bournemouth players surrounded him. The two mid-table teams proved too tame to topple the other on the south coast in the end but interim Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neill will still have been delighted to extend his side’s unbeaten run to four league matches since its 9-0 demolition by Liverpool in August. Bramall took charge in the league for just the second time, and his move to stick with his original on-field decision of no penalty was met with clear derision by the Cherries.

Bournemouth player ratings vs Brentford: Philip Billing struggles on ... (Dorset Live)

The Cherries delivered another resilient defensive showing at Vitality Stadium to claim a point in the Premier League.

The apparent confusion around the frontline didn't exactly aid his cause, and it was no surprise that he was taken off with just under 20 minutes left on the clock. That, of course, is down to a lack of off-the-ball movement, and this afflicted the whole of the side. To little surprise, his physicality was a useful asset, but he left behind a lingering sense of what could have been. The striker was forced to work off next to no service again this week. A quiet day at the office for Kieffer Moore. His centre-half partner was typically the man to sweep up behind for long balls, allowing Marcos Senesi a remit to progress more with his passes. In a match of small margins, his balance and poise were crucial. He was also the man who went down under Kristoffer Ajer's clumsy tackle, which should have resulted in a penalty being awarded. Sported the captain's armband again and looked to constantly urge his team-mates to inject more energy into the contest in a bid to generate momentum. Normally the man responsible for progressive passes through the middle, he took more of a back seat against Brentford. The stalwart snapped into a number of well-timed tackles, continuing his superb season. As a result, his side were unable to spring forward on the transition, as they have done recently.

Lerma also blocked the recovering Jansson, who was bundled unwittingly into Marcus Tavernier. Chris Mepham almost gifted Brentford the dream start, passing straight to Mikkel Damsgaard in the final third. Referee Bramall rejected a penalty despite a lengthy look at the pitchside monitor, leaving the hosts little short of dumbfounded. Ivan Toney was booked at the close of the half for booting the ball into the crowd, summing up the general Dean Court feelings heading into the break. Pontus Jansson wasted a free header from a corner with a wretched connection, before Damsgaard fired the loose ball straight at Neto. Bournemouth’s ire grew still further at the final whistle, as Bramall gave no second thought to the ball striking Mathias Jensen’s arm in the area.

Brentford might have saved Manchester United from embarrassment ... (Manchester Evening News)

Erik ten Hag changed Man United's style after the Brentford debacle and the change in approach has inspired improvement.

Somewhere in a parallel universe, Brentford did not humiliate United in August and Ten Hag stubbornly persisted with his Ajax-like approach, instead of realising it was not working and leaving his side hopelessly vulnerable to average opposition. The Dutchman wanted to control proceedings against Brighton and Brentford and it backfired. [Manchester City](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/manchester-city-fc) on Sunday and they will dominate possession. There have been many special Champions League nights when that has been the case. Ten Hag has managed Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II, Utrecht and Ajax and there were doubts about whether a coach with that CV would have the tactical acumen to succeed in the Premier League. The history of United also dictates this approach should be embraced, not shamed. That pragmatic approach worked and it has been used since. It was spirited, determined and the counter-attacks had been ruthlessly efficient. It is not impossible to overturn a two-goal advantage, but the players' body language, with the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, who was shouting and gesturing from the halfway line, suggested they had already accepted their fate. Ronaldo has played at the Bernabeu, Nou Camp, San Siro and Vicente Calderon, and he was never going to be fazed by the 17,000-capacity Brentford Community Stadium. It's just a shame that his teammates were and they continued to capitulate in spectacular fashion, conceding another two goals before half-time. The players had to take responsibility, but

“Kieffer Moore was up there and we didn’t manage to progress with the ball often enough to use his threat really. But he assures me there was a check and it was completed very quickly.” With captain Lloyd Kelly missing for the past two matches, Mepham has partnered Marcos Senesi, who is new to the league, in defence and the pair are striking up a solid pairing. But he opted not to change his decision. “Probably like the fans. Discussing his decision to change formation and give Moore a start, over Ryan Christie, O’Neil added: “Kieffer I felt could help us.

Man Utd ruthlessly trolled by Brentford with score dig after Man City ... (Daily Express)

Manchester United were thumped by Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

And Bryan Mbeumo completed the rout with 10 minutes of the first half still to play. And Mathias Jensen doubled his team’s advantage eight minutes later after dispossessing Christian Eriksen in the Red Devils penalty area. On that occasion, all four of Brentford’s goals had come in the opening period, meaning they matched the Citizens’ first half showing. The Red Devils were no match for their Manchester neighbours as they ultimately went on to find themselves on the end of a 6-3 thumping. And Foden turned in his second from close range just before the interval as the hosts found themselves in dream land. That defeat had come in west London against Brentford as the Bees won the match 4-0.
