A CNN rep said audio remains an important area for the company and that the news organization is refining its strategy as it learns what works.

Five months after the network axed its much-hyped but short-lived streamer, it gave pink slips to the remaining staffers on the failed endeavor.

According to Insider, the company also told staff it would be producing fewer audio series and podcasts in the coming year. Last month, [Licht canceled](https://www.thedailybeast.com/reliable-sources-host-brian-stelter-out-at-cnn) the long-running media analysis show Reliable Sources, ousted its host Brian Stelter, and laid off the program’s production staff. Hundreds of employees, some of whom had just joined the network, lost their jobs. “Leadership has spent the past several months evaluating our business to ensure it is best positioned for the future,” a CNN spokesperson told The Daily Beast while confirming the layoffs. Additionally, those impacted would be given an opportunity to apply for other open positions in the company.
