Apple's recently announced iPhone 14 lineup includes a Plus model with a bigger screen, but this time, there's no Mini model for the fans of the small ...
Yes, the Mini becoming the budget model would certainly take away some of its charm — but at least it would still get new processors every once in a while, and, as Sean noted, many of us would be willing to trade having the absolute latest and greatest for a phone that actually works with our anatomy. [seen](https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/why-apples-foldable-iphone-isnt-thing-yet/) the [argument](https://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-iPhone-Mini-foldable-phone_id134319) that foldables like [the Galaxy Z Flip](https://www.theverge.com/23312037/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-4-review-price-specs-screen-camera-battery) will replace the Mini. If Apple is plotting that sort of move, it probably won’t show up in supply chains for a few years. And that’s the real magic of the Mini — it fills (or filled, I suppose) a niche that was basically completely abandoned by other manufacturers. If Apple sticks with its current lineup and no Android manufacturer steps in to fill the small hole in the market, where are us Mini fans going to go? The Asus Zenfone 9 has a 5.9-inch screen, and the Pixel 6A rocks a 6.1-inch display (which my co-worker Allison Johnson [recently declared](https://www.theverge.com/2022/8/25/23321978/iphone-14-pixel-6a-phone-screen-size-6-1-inches) as “the ideal smartphone screen size”). And while it may have been able to go feature for feature with its bigger mainline counterpart, it’s hard to imagine that Apple could’ve made a Pro version that was practical. My point is that if you have an iPhone 13 Mini and want to upgrade while still keeping the small size, you basically have no options available. After years of features, like multiple incredible cameras, 512GB of storage, and bright, HDR displays, only being available in phones with 5.8-inch or (much) larger screens, the Mini finally made them all available in a device you could comfortably use with one hand. According to [estimates from Statista](https://www.statista.com/statistics/684294/global-smartphone-shipments-by-screen-size/), phones with 5- to 5.5-inch screens accounted for around 13.5 percent of units shipped by manufacturers in 2022. In early 2021, reports started to surface that Apple had vastly overestimated demand for the phone and had to It managed to be a 2020-tier flagship phone crammed into the footprint of a mid-2010s device.
The iPhone mini 13 was always about 'sentiments' but the iPhone 14 Plus will be important to Apple's bottom line.
But as a fan, I wish to see the iPhone mini being resurrected soon. Adding the iPhone 14 Plus to the lineup is a calculated choice. I wish Apple had continued with the iPhone mini this year, but in the face of fierce competition and higher prices of components, dropping that series from the lineup seemed like a logical decision. With the iPhone 14 Plus starting at $899, Apple has managed to raise the average price of the iPhones it sells—likely because customers are opting for models with bigger screens or better batteries. And, the iPhone SE 3 had a 12 per cent share, far more than the iPhone 13 mini. Of course, I was disappointed as there was no iPhone mini model in Apple’s iPhone 14 series.
You can still get the less expensive iPhone SE, though.

It’s basic physics; the bigger the phone, the bigger the battery capacity, and the better the battery life. Let the Mini rest, and long live the Plus. Limiting this to the most expensive iPhone was a poor choice for Apple, even though the Apple learned that lesson with the iPhone 13 after fumbling on the 12 lineup of phones, and it’s going even further with the 14. Consumers want the biggest display possible on a smartphone in their pockets. It is the same quarter where all four iPhone 13 models made up 71% of iPhone sales in the U.S., according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners ( [CIRP](https://www.cirpllc.com)).
