There's not enough consistency from Juventus to present PSG a challenge at this stage in the season. Verratti and Hakimi are involved, with the latter playing a one-two with Mbappe as the Frenchman enters the penalty area. He shows both Bremer and Ramos a yellow card to up the stakes on the rest of the match. The official has lots of work to do to put a lid on things. A deflection in the Juventus penalty area falls to Neymar at the top of the six-yard box, and the Brazilian unleashes a blistering volley. Dusan Vlahovic whips a header in at a great angle, but Donnarumma is there diving down to his right to get a hand on the shot. The Frenchman produces a rare whiff in front of net. 36th min: Neymar somehow gets free through the Juventus back line off a brilliant bit of skill and a fortuitous deflection, and he goes down under contact from Juan Cuadrado as the ball rolls to Perin. The new summer arrival whiffs as he tries to clear a cross, and that allows Kostic to feed Locatelli arriving in the six-yard box. 65th min: Marco Verratti, who's had an absolutely incredible match, earns a yellow card for a push in the back of Rabiot. This influence is a very positive sign for McKennie as he looks to win minutes in a crowded Juventus midfield, even in the absence of Paul Pogba. Both had chances after the break, but neither produced the same cutting edge they showed in the first half and throughout the start of the season.

That leaves a risky lacuna in the Parisians’ lineup – with very little in the way of cover if one of their ageing defenders gets injured. For all the money fire-hosed at PSG – for all the talk that this season it would finally bear fruit – they crumbled in the face of a historic club with decades-long pedigree, as Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema scored a second leg hat trick to tear down PSG’s lead and send them crashing out of the tournament. It was a 6-1 beating that seemed to expose the Parisians as amateurish parvenus with no place at football’s top table. It looked like PSG had joined the ranks of the giants. The [Champions League](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/champions-league/) is the theatre of PSG’s most passionate hopes for glory, and over recent years the tournament’s knockout rounds have provided stages for the tragic denouement of those hopes. So will the Parisians finally shake off their reputations as also-rans in club football’s top tournament?

The Frenchman strikes off his left foot looking for the bottom corner, but he scuffs his strike slightly and it bobbles out for a goal-kick. Just moments ago, Locatelli came on for Milik. Weston McKennie's 53rd minute header keeps the visitors within touching distance, though, for now. Two defensive changes for PSG. Locatelli charges into the box and rides a challenge. Verratti comes off for Sanches.
Christophe Galtier and Kylian Mbappé cracked up at the coach's suggestion of using “a sand yacht” for short trips.
It really costs less, since for a sum of 100 to 150 euros, you can go there in a sand yacht and effectively with a carbon footprint equal to zero. “To be very honest with you, this morning we spoke with the company that organizes our trips, and we’re trying to see if we can travel by sand yacht.” We can all have the giggles at the least opportune moment, and it really was the least opportune moment. Politicians were quick to jump on the issue. President Emmanuel Macron on Monday urged everyone to “do their bit” to fight climate change. Then he turned to Kylian Mbappé, his star striker, who dissolved into laughter.

Top French football club Paris St-Germain has been criticised following a joke about the team using a private plane for a short journey.

Not for the first time on the Champions League stage, star-laden PSG sprinkled moments of greatness into a match it should have fully controlled.
And the fact it wasn’t suggests exactly why PSG has so often disappointed in Europe and why doubts remain about its ability to cross that final barrier. PSG was able to hold the ball for long periods and run down the clock. For the first, scored after five minutes, Mbappé pushed the ball to Neymar and then accelerated into the box, smashing in a volley as the Brazilian scooped the ball over the Juventus defense. By the mid-point of the first half it seemed Juventus had been reduced to damage limitation. But it’s one thing to dazzle in France, quite another to do so in the Champions League. Then it became self-indulgent, and by the end, while it was never exactly hanging on, it was definitely anxious.

Mbappe, coming in from the left, supplied Neymar before continuing into the box to meet the Brazilian's delightful return pass with a volley across goalkeeper Mattia Perin and into the far corner. He needed just five minutes to open the scoring on a balmy evening at the Parc des Princes after linking up brilliantly with Neymar, one of his rivals for the limelight in PSG's squad of superstars. Mbappe signed a new deal in Paris to 2025 with the aim of leading his hometown team to a first Champions League title after a decade of disappointing defeats and occasional humiliations at the business end of the competition.

Paris St Germain (PSG) coach Christophe Galtier and striker Kylian Mbappe have been facing a backlash for laughing off a question about why the team took a private jet for a short trip to a game in Nantes last weekend, instead of using more eco-friendly trains. Quizzed on PSG’s jet trip to Nantes at a news conference on Monday, Galtier and Mbappe looked at each other and the World Cup winner burst out laughing as his coach responded with a quip. It's a clash of titans with the Parisians taking on the boys from Turin. Can Leo Messi and Co. overcome the Italian giants? Let's find out together!
The Parisians attempt to play around their defense but Kimpembe is fouled and they will restart with a freekick. Once again PSG reclaim the ball and work the ball to the left. A foul by Neymar in the middle of the pitch. A Juventus freekick on the right side of the field. To the right they go, but again back to the defense. In the end PSG regain the ball and will have a throw deep in their defensive third. A low cross from the Frenchman is blocked and PSG have a corner. Neymar is yet to get to his feet and it would seem the clock is going to run out on this one. A foul in the middle of the field on Messi. Juventus appear to have a renewed sense of purpose with McKennie but it's brought to an end by Leo Messi of all people who breaks from the defense and then unleashes Mbappe. Again the Parisians probe but Juventus manage to break and eventually win a throw in. PSG with the ball once again but Juventus win it and break immediately.

"I have a new role in the side now. I am trying to adapt to that new role while also scoring goals." The home side then had Donnarumma to thank for a fine save to keep out a Dusan Vlahovic header, but a bigger margin of victory for PSG would not have been undeserved, with Perin keeping out a late Neymar volley. Leandro Paredes played a short corner on the left to Filip Kostic, and his cross was headed home by McKennie with Donnarumma caught in no-man's land. He needed just five minutes to get the breakthrough on a balmy evening after linking up brilliantly with Neymar, one of his rivals for the limelight in PSG's squad of superstars. There's not enough consistency from Juventus to present PSG a challenge at this stage in the season. The club has lacked creativity in the final third, with just 6.52 xG (expected goals) across the five matches, sitting Juve eighth in Serie A, miles behind the likes of Napoli, Inter, and AC Milan. Neymar is at the forefront, with an insane seven goals and six assists through just 455 league minutes, both which put the Brazilian atop the Ligue 1 charts. Angel Di Maria is also likely to play against his former side after a free transfer over the summer. The club reached the finals in 2020, only to fall to Bayern Munich. Juventus also crave European glory, having failed to progress past the quarterfinals since their finals loss to Real Madrid in 2017. The only rotation has come along the defensive line. Dominating Ligue 1 play despite locker room adversity, Galtier must now navigate the Champions League knowing his employers expect to hoist a trophy at the end of the season. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has an ankle injury and will be replaced by Mattia Perin. Captain Marquinhos has started consistently, but the others have rotated. Otherwise, they've only reached the semifinals once, bounced in the Round of 16 four times and the quarterfinals four times since 2012. Tue, Sept.

PSG kick off the group stage by welcoming Serie A giants Juventus to Paris with two first half Mbappe goals.
It's a fine result considering they played PSG but it also shows how far Juventus still have to go if they'd like to return to rubbing shoulders with the world's elite. Back to his best ahead of the World Cup, Neymar has already been lighting up Ligue 1 with seven goals and six assists in six matches, and if he can bring even half of that to Champions League play, PSG can go on quite the run this season. While Neymar only had one assist to show for his game, he was one of the best players on the pitch for either team. They only held 37% possession in the first half compared to things being even in the second half while McKennie scored a headed goal and took another shot. McKennie started the match on the bench and his absence showed as Leandro Paredes was the only central midfielder to impact the game in the first half. It only took eight minutes of McKennie being on the pitch for him to find Juventus' first goal with a header from Filip Kostic's cross, but it wouldn't be enough and Juventus couldn't find an equalizer.
Kylian Mbappé has scored two superb goals to give PSG a 2-1 win against Juventus in their Champions League opener.
PSG was under pressure in the final 10 minutes and Manuel Locatelli almost made the most of a mistake from Nordi Mukiele. A mistake from Donnarumma then gave Juventus hope of snatching a point. PSG doubled its lead soon after at the conclusion of a fine move of one-touch football ignited by Marco Verratti. “He played a great game with two great goals,” PSG coach Christophe Galtier said. PSG threatened down the left side with Nuno Mendes’ pace and dribbles and broke the deadlock just five minutes into the game. Juventus had a good 10-minute spell in the second half after American midfielder Weston McKennie pulled one back, ensuring a tense finale.

"From June to August, Messi made 52 flights with his private jet, amounting to 1,502 tons of CO2 emissions. I am aware of the responsibility we have," Galtier told Canal Plus. "I have no thoughts," he replied in the press conference when asked for his view on the train travel option. Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire called Galtier's response "inappropriate" while Paris' left-wing mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted: "It's not on to answer stuff like that???? This is Paris." Galtier and Mbappe were asked at a press conference on Monday whether they had discussed an offer from the state railway group SNCF to provide travel for them to away games.
Mbappé and Neymar dazzled at times in a win over Juventus but the flaws that accompany team's flair must be addressed.
It was there as Mbappé veered in on goal and shot wide from a silly angle with Neymar howling and waving his arms like a drowning man in the middle. When other teams take the ball away what Paris often seem to lack is a way of playing that is neither thrilling bursts nor spells of sudden passivity; but which is just a sense of playing, holding their ground, existing comfortably in the middle gears. And it does still seem credible a team with Ramos in it could win the Champions League, just as it was tempting in that first half to conclude PSG are finally reaching critical mass. It was there after half-time as Juventus switched to a high-pressing flat back four and changed the game. At one point he cleared the ball off the line with a super-slick prone back-heel. The haters are a little harsh on Neymar (the haters cant help it: it’s in their nature). For all the notes of frustration he is a relentlessly productive footballer. And it should be said, the pass really was a thing of beauty, a moment all of its own, spinning in space. Neymar knows this pattern too, knows to thread the ball into that space. Christophe Galtier may look like a charismatic 1980s small-town mayor on his way to have a long lunch with his personal assistant, but he has a clear and sober plan. Paris have duly scored 24 goals in six league games (although this is of course the default: what are these outsize superstars doing here, if not this?). Galtier has tinkered minutely with his formation, with the idea that his starry front three simply need proximity, interplay, time to learn one another’s game more intensely.

"Global warming is no longer an abstraction, it is something that has consequences on our daily life -- there are forest fires, there is a very strong drought, there are floods -- and everyone must take their part in this effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It's not laughable and that's what's shocking about their words, to make it something that is anecdotal. It was a bad joke, but believe me, at the club we are all concerned about these climate problems."
PSG boss Christophe Galtier and Kylian Mbappe laughed off questions over the team's private jet trip to Nantes last weekend.
