"It's a new adventure in my career. Just before the deadline on Thursday they added Spanish international midfielder Carlos Soler from Valencia, with the fee reaching 20 million euros with bonuses, according to reports in Spain. Few clubs in Europe can compete with the economic might of the Premier League, and few clubs on the continent can match PSG's spending power. They have since spent over 100 million euros in fees on new signings, including Spain midfielder Fabian Ruiz from Napoli, not to mention making Nuno Mendes's loan from Sporting Lisbon permanent and signing Reims striker Hugo Ekitike on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season for a reported 36 million euros.#photo1 Clubs on the continent have once again been far more frugal than their English counterparts over the summer, and instances of continental giants splashing huge sums in the final hours before the window closes are rare, in contrast to the spending habits of the Premier League. Paris (AFP) – Beyond the lavish spending of the Premier League, there were few big-money deals and Paris Saint-Germain's attempts to offload unwanted members of their squad animated the final day of the transfer window in Europe on Thursday.

Striker Arnaud Kalimuendo was bought by Rennes and defender Thilo Kehrer went to Premier League club West Ham this week. Soler netted 12 league goals in each of the past two seasons and would offer Galtier another creative spark if he needs to rest Neymar or Lionel Messi. Goal-scoring midfielder Jordan Veretout joined from Roma. Before hopefully signing Skriniar, PSG's transfer outlay had reached 130 million euros ($130 million). Nice recruited two Premier League veterans in goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel for 1 million euros and midfielder Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer. PSG coach Christophe Galtier really wants another defender so he can rotate his squad properly.

PSG: Confirmed signings and departures in the summer transfer ... (Sportskeeda)

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have had a blistering transfer window following Christophe Galtier's new position in the dugout at the Parc des Princes.

PSG's biggest sale of the window was Arnaud Kalimuendo, who moved to Stade Rennais for a €20 million fee. The club did manage to make sales, letting go of players like center-back Thilo Kehrer for €12 million. Their most expensive signing of the summer came in the form of Vitinha, who moved from Porto to PSG for €41.5 million. Abdou Diallo moved to RB Leipzig on loan with a €1.5 million attached fee as well. Both players (aged 22 and 20 respectively) were also part of the youngest arrivals at the club. They have not held back in bringing in talent, opening their checkbooks to sign players for a total of over €147 million.

Rumour Has It: PSG to resume failed chase for Inter's Skriniar in ... (sportsmax.tv)

– Marco Asensio had been linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks but he has committed to seeing out his Real Madrid contract which ...

Only Chelsea (£251.09m), Manchester United (£214.22m) and West Ham (£163.80m) spent more in the Premier League. Two of them came in that campaign, and as above, with mixed results. Essentially, spending money does appear to provide a slight upper hand. A year later, they won the league. But which approach is likelier to pay off in the long run? Across the past 10 seasons, the team that spent the most out of the three newly promoted sides has ended up being relegated in five of them, while in seven of the past 10 seasons, the team that spent the least of them has been relegated. It did not work. In the 2013-14 season, Cardiff City (£41.23m) spent more money than both fellow promoted sides, Hull City (£27.99m) and Crystal Palace (£29.70m), but were the only one of the three to go back down. In the 2020-21 campaign, only high-spending Leeds United (£96.12m) stayed up of the promoted teams, with West Brom (£37.93m) and Fulham (£33.53m) going back down. The same thing happened in 2014-15 as Burnley's spend of £11.36m was not enough to keep them up, while Leicester's outlay of £20.57m is the least any promoted team has spent without going back down in the past decade. There have been just five clubs that have spent less than Bournemouth in preparation to make the jump from the second tier to the Premier League since the start of the 2012-13 season. Using fees from Transfermarkt, Stats Perform has taken a look at the past 10 years of spending from the Premier League's promoted clubs to see how those who splashed the cash in their first season back in the big time fared.
