New Colts quarterback Matt Ryan opens up about his friendship with Peyton Manning, his social justice activism, and any smudges on the resume.
One of the things I like to do—and I did this in my first few years in Atlanta—is try to help teammates who have been here longer make an impact with some of the things they’re already doing. I’m new to the city and would like to get a feel for it, but I want to be active [philanthropically] right away. Hopefully, they can learn the lesson to take it upon themselves to leave the places where they live in a better spot. I don’t know why, but a lack of punctuality is a pet peeve of mine. You were with the Atlanta Falcons for 14 years and thought you would be there forever, but the team decided to move on. I was a senior in college the first time I heard from Peyton. They had a Manning Award for the top college quarterback, and I was lucky enough to win that award, so I got a call from him, Eli, Archie, and Cooper. From there, it was just back and forth. I know this year probably isn’t a full-on Matt Ryan Revenge Tour, but considering how it ended with the Falcons and those questioning what you have left in the tank at age 37, what’s your drive like for 2022? I have twin boys who are 4, and my hope is that when they’re in their 20s, they’ll be living in a city—whether it’s Atlanta, Indianapolis, or somewhere else—that’s better than it is right now. Manning was in Indianapolis for 14 years and thought he would be here forever, but the team decided to move on. You’ve pointed to George Floyd’s murder as a linchpin moment that changed how you approached philanthropy and activism. I still feel like my best football is in front of me. Let’s just say it’s been a welcome adjustment, being able to get seemingly anywhere in town in 20–25 minutes.
The Australian international joined the La Real squad at the start of the 2021/22 campaign as an experienced back up option to first choice stopper Alex Remiro.
Imanol Alguacil is now expected to dip back into the transfer market this month to source a reliable deputy to Remiro for the 2022/23 campaign. The main objective for Ryan is to secure regular game time in the coming months as he aims to start for Australia at the 2022 World Cup. As per reports from Marca, the club have agreed to terminate his current contract, which was due to expire in 2023, with Ryan already saying goodbye to his teammates at their training base in Donostia.

He's a former MVP winner. But he tied for the 2nd fewest TDs thrown in a single season of his career last year. He was top 15 in passing yardage last year.
Plus, Sean spoke to us on: It’s the beauty of training camp and preseason play, because it makes fans turn from confident to worried and back faster than any other time of year. That’s not how this league works.
Matt Ryan is poised to succeed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022, but what will it mean for his fantasy football outlook?
Matt Ryan will be available in most leagues to pick up to make spot starts, and chances are he will get the job done for that week. He’s going to be called upon to make throws when he has to, but Taylor is going to the primary offensive option for the Colts. That is going to make Ryan unplayable for most of the season. The Colts are in a much better spot to win, but from a fantasy perspective, not much changes for Ryan. He’s going to be the prime method of offense for the Colts. Right out of the gate, that limits Ryan’s fantasy value. But in a Colts offense built around star running back Jonathan Taylor, Ryan could be the perfect quarterback to help lead the Colts to wins in 2022. A reasonable comparison would by Ryan Tannehill of the Tennessee Titans. Tannehill isn’t going to have gaudy stats, as Derrick Henry will do most of the work, but when called upon, he can make throws to help his team win.
Matt Ryan is getting rave reviews from Indianapolis Colts decision makers in their 2022 training camp.
The Rivers comparison is important because he was the man under center in that 11-5 season two years ago. The Colts decided to move Wentz despite no clear plan on who would eventually replace him. And based on a new report from ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano on a Tuesday morning edition of Sportscenter, the Colts couldn’t be any happier with Ryan and what he has brought to their locker room this summer.
It's quarterback chaos in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Washington and more, but Matt Ryan has calmed the waters in Indy.
Open or not, Ryan has to throw it to the receiver during one-on-one drills, and he’s using the times when his receiver isn’t open to throw it up for grabs, to learn the tendencies of his new teammates. Meanwhile, in Washington, the Commanders have a major problem at quarterback. At the very end of Reich’s daily post-practice media availability, someone wanted to know about Kelly. No, not Ryan Kelly. The question was about Dennis Kelly, the former Purdue tackle who might or might not make this team, and if he does, might or might not play a meaningful snap all season. Also in New York, Daniel Jones is entering his fourth and possible final season as the starter. That would be Rodney Thomas II, the rookie defensive back out of Yale, whom the Colts chose in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Phenix Thomas is 10, and Azariya is 7. And it removes the only issue anyone could’ve possibly had with Ryan on Sunday, or during any of this camp. You could wonder about the interceptions Ryan throws during one-on-one drills. In Westfield, we’re talking about the third- and fourth-string tight ends. At Colts camp, the biggest distraction is the sight of two adorable little kids in No. 25 jerseys, with “Thomas” on the back. In Arizona they’re talking about Kyler Murray's insulting contract, the one insisting he spend four hours a week studying film on his own. Now someone’s asking him about the struggles of his receivers. So we’re asking Ryan about that, seeing how he’s the quarterback.
