Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace, has been axed, while The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, still appears to be going ahead (Picture: Rex/Warner Bros.).
‘Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. However WB has confirmed the film will not see the light of day – meaning no theatrical release or streaming release. More recently, the actor has faced allegations of grooming a child from the age of 12 and has been accused of hosting a woman and three young children at their farm in an ‘unsafe environment.’ We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.’ One more added: ‘If they can cancel a completed movie just like that why is the flash still on schedule despite the ezra miller scandal?’ while another said: ‘They filmed this movie and still chose to cancel it BUT the lead of the flash movie is running away from the law and they still won’t cancel that movie.’ ‘The fact that DC are willing to cancel Batgirl, a movie that’s had ZERO production issues, just to supposedly save a bit of money, but haven’t cancelled The Flash despite that movie’s production being an utter nightmare and its main star being toxic…
Warner Bros is not the first studio to bury a film six feet deep. Here are a few more of the worst movies you'll never see.
In 2018 it was announced that Michael Flatley – yes, that Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley – had written, directed, financed and starred in a globetrotting spy thriller called Blackbird. Not much was known about the film, other than that most of it seemed to feature Flatley wearing a fedora and gazing into the middle distance. The film was shot in two weeks in 2014, and starred Michael Madsen. A trailer was released, and yet the film itself never made it to television. By all reports a terrible film, Empires of the Deep failed to find distribution in 2014, and a 2016 crowdfunding campaign failed to help get it on to screens. But if this really is it – if Batgirl really is destined to be locked in a vault unseen until the end of time – then at least it finds itself in decent company. A $130m underwater 3D fantasy starring Olga Kurylenko as the queen of the mermaids sounds like the best film of 2011. Until this week, it was hard to look upon the imminent Batgirl movie with anything but a wearied sigh.

Arguably, one such title is Batgirl, an American superhero effort based on the titular DC Comics character Barbara Gordon. Or was, rather. Unfortunately, ...
We’ll just have to let our imaginations do the work. It’s shocked and upset fans of the iconic character, and we’re here to suggest that Leslie Grace’s Batgirl deserved more. Charismatic and charming, she arguably possessed the magnetism that made her casting appealing. It was an incredible learning experience to be on set with also action veterans like Brendan Fraser, and soak up it all up… Not only that, but the filmmakers worked on Ms Marvel, which despite dividing the masses proved a refreshing superhero origin that won over plenty of initially sceptical viewers. Understandably, it can lead to fatigue and a lack of interest for some audiences.

There is also the addition of Michael Keaton's Batman here and there would have been some worldbuilding relating around his universe too. The story there would have seen her don a costume of her own and prove Batman’s scepticism wrong. The Batgirl film was set to be based on the comic book, Batgirl: Year One. The comic brought about the modern origins of Batgirl turning into the hero we know and love. The suit was also directly inspired by that of Batgirl: The Batgirl of Burnside. The comic book also saw Barbara Gordon take on the villain of Killer Moth and Firefly as well. A very known and reliable leaker by the name of ViewerAnon on Twitter has been holding on to information on the film and has been leaking it out now. Killer Moth was reportedly set to make his appearance in the film as well. Matters are only made worse considering the directors for the film, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, got the news of it during Adil’s wedding in Morocco. It just makes one wonder, why would WB not do anything with The Flash that has a lead who led the authorities on a manhunt, while a film like Batgirl gets shelved for tax related reasons. He would then be fired from that job and turn to a life of crime when his health insurance would have been cancelled and his wife would have become extremely sick. Apparently, Carson would have been working for a mob boss and would leave him to join a normal job. There is also the reason of it being cancelled due to tax related issues, which means WB/DC legally can’t release this film now since they would be then making a profit off from it. In a really unprecedented move, Warner Bros has shelved the upcoming Batgirl film.

In the Heights star Leslie Grace was supposed to get her big break with Batgirl. Then Warner Bros pulled the plug.
(The Instagram post was also still live, despite a false claim on Twitter that Grace had deleted the photo.) The star has yet to comment on the Batgirl news. Batgirl was a role that, whether or not the movie was good, would surely put Grace on the map. As of Wednesday, the day after the news of the Batgirl cancellation broke, that was still Grace’s pinned tweet. But, unfortunately, despite rave reviews, a combination of the pandemic, a simultaneous HBO Max release, and audiences waning interest in movie musicals kept the film from becoming a hit. But, hey, at least it led to Warner Bros. tapping Grace as the lead for its upcoming Batgirl movie, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, which promised to bring back Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne and cast Brendan Fraser as the film’s villain. The 27-year-old singer and actor should have been a movie star after her jaw-dropping performance as Nina Rosario In the Heights in 2021.
