Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid LIVE (Manchester Evening News)

Man United play Atletico Madrid today and we'll bring you live updates from the match in Oslo in our live blog.

It means Ronaldo will play for United for the first time since the 4-0 away defeat to Brighton on May 7. The sun is shining and the United fans are out in full force. That game is a chance for players who haven’t featured to top up minutes in pre-season, but it will now be Ronaldo’s return as well, although he has almost no chance of playing against Brighton a week tomorrow. United might have just experienced their worst ever Premier League season but support in Norway is as strong as ever, with the region’s supporters’ group hitting record membership this season. You would expect at least 10 of the starting XI against Brighton next week to be involved against Atletico today, with Luke Shaw the only one who could start that isn’t in Oslo. Shaw was just about edging Tyrell Malacia for left-back duties on tour but Malacia will get a good chance to impress here. That team feels like it’s pretty much Ten Hag’s strongest XI at the moment, with the exception of Sancho who is ill and misses out. Shaw isn’t in the 21-man squad at all. "This is the last test," Ten Hag told MUTV. "We want the players to get the minutes in the legs and, of course, we want to see a team performance. That’s probably the line up we expected, but that fans didn’t want to see. This is the purpose of these two games [Atletico and Rayo Vallecano]." The majority has to play 90 minutes because that is what you want when you come into the league. He is still expected to head out on loan before deadline day but his stock has certainly risen after an underwhelming time at Bournemouth.

Manchester United vs. Atletico Madrid live score, updates, highlights ... (Sporting News)

Manchester United will face Atletico Madrid in a preseason tuneup match that comes a week before the start of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

We want to get the players to get the minutes in their legs. But we have another yellow, this time for Fred who tugs on the shirt of Angel Correa in the United half. A majority [of players] have to play 90 minutes because that is what you want when you go into the league. J.M. Gimenez misjudges a ball and Martial is free on goal, but he fires over the bar with a recovering defender on his back. 45th min.: Nice play by Man United. Good passing through the lines and it's Marcus Rashford who picks out Anthony Elanga in the box, but Elanga's shot is easily stopped. 67th min.: It's a challenge for Man United now. Although they tried, Manchester United struggled to generate enough clear-cut opportunities against a solid defensive side like Atletico, and when they did, the players didn't quite have the finishing touch. The most interesting conversation around the starting lineup against Brighton will probably center around Eriksen and whether he should be there from the opening whistle given the impact his substitute appearance had on the Atletico Madrid match. Ten Hag pushed his players for more minutes in this match and he made just four subs, with the first ones only coming on at the 70th minute mark. 75th min.: You can already notice the difference with Christian Eriksen on the field. Man United 'keeper David De Gea, who had a quiet afternoon, couldn't stop the Felix blast, screened by his teammate who was covering on the play. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga had attempts on goal, Harry Maguire was dangerous on a couple of corner kicks, and Facundo Pellistri even had a late look at goal that was blocked.

United contest a gritty friendly with Atletico just a week before the new Premier League season.

Antony Martial – Had two great chances to score in the opening throes and ran the hard yards. Elanga also drew a yellow from Lemar in first half. Fred – Prevented Kondogbia from influencing the midfield, and combined well on occasions with Rashford. The more defensive of the central midfield pair. His block of Matheus Cunha with a well-timed challenge wsas the pick of the bunch. 6/10 This could well be the XI that starts against Brighton next weekend.

Report: Atletico Madrid 1 Man Utd 0 (Manchester United)

Erik ten Hag's side were beaten for the first time during pre-season, as Joao Felix's late strike proved decisive.

On for a couple minutes and he’s produced the game’s best pass already. Thankfully, the red card will not trigger a competitive ban for our no.17. Rashford then again looked to exploit Atletico’s backline, as the contest entered the last 10 minutes. Marcus Rashford was the first United player to trouble Jan Oblak early on. Victor Lindelof defended superbly to prevent Geoffrey Kondogbia from handing Diego Simeone’s side the lead soon after. Erik ten Hag also handed a debut to new signing Christian Eriksen.

CM: Scott McTominay - 5/10 - Wore his collar up like Eric Cantona used to. Failed to make the ball stick and was roughed up quite a bit. Sent off late on for a needless foul on Morata.
