The Brit attacked again on a small uncategorized climb 15km from the line, and breakaway companions Lowden and Marie Le Net (FDJ-Suez-Futuroscope) darted cross. Annemiek Van Vleuten’s pain train pulled the breakaway trio to within 20 seconds. All three were fast back onto the bike but Weibes looked bloodied up and in difficulty as she slowly chased back. UAE ADQ and Valcar Travel & Service were two of the few teams to miss the break and kept the escape on a tight leash in hopes of a reduced sprint in Rosheim. Marianne Vos sprinted to Stage 6 victory at the Tour de France Femmes to extend her lead in the yellow jersey to 30 seconds ahead of the mountains.
With Anna upfront the rest of the girls kept me constantly out of the wind. By keeping the tempo high, she deterred anyone from taking advantage and allowed her team-mate to bide her time. Approaching the final categorised climb of the day an attack from Anna Henderson (Jumbo-Visma) left just three riders out front. She was joined in her attack by Juliette Labous (Team DSM) but enjoyed little cooperation from the other teams, who were happy with the race coming down to a sprint. Working for the win for Liane Lippert, all four of her team-mates pressed on. Instead it was Vos who secured a second victory, a first in the maillot jaune, with another dominant sprint success.
The Dutchwoman extended her lead in the yellow jersey with the win, the 242nd of her career.
Henderson attacked off the front once again, along with Le Net, followed at distance by Lowden. With 15km to go, these three established a lead of about 200m over their breakaway colleagues, as the peloton sat 400m behind. Into the final 1.5km, Jumbo-Visma were leading things for Vos, with Trek and SD Worx also well positioned. 4. Elisa Longo Borghini (Ita) Trek-Segafredo, at 35s Because of this, the gap was reduced to below 30 seconds. Koch was caught by the bunch at this point. There was a temporary split in the front group, but this came back together. 2. Silvia Persico (Ita) Valcar-Travel & Service, at 30s 10. We wanted to spend the energy right and put the focus on the stage victory. So, aiming for the green jersey is also costing a lot of energy along the way. “For us, up front, we were aiming for a stage victory and that worked out on Monday.
