Brendan Fraser Says The Whale Will 'Make a Lasting Impression' (MovieWeb)

The Whale sees Brendan Fraser playing a 600-pound man, and he needed some extensive prosthetics to achieve a role unlike anything else he has done.

For fans of the actor, his comeback has been hitting the high notes so far, and looks set to continue to do so in future. As has been seen with many recent and upcoming movies, actors using either CGI or practical effects to change their appearance is something that is constantly being brought up on social media. Speaking to Newsweek last month, Fraser explained that filming was all done and the movie was almost ready to go.

Seriously, What Happened to Brendan Fraser? (Rare.us)

Brendan Fraser is back in the news and it's led fans to question where the heck this '90s idol has been hiding. Where have you been, Brendan?

And he starts moving it around.” Fraser told Baron. The actor says that in the moment he was gripped with fear. As announced earlier this week, Fraser is starring in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, which will follow Fraser as a very obese man struggling to connect with his teenage daughter. Though Fraser considered going public with the story at the time, he resisted, not wanting it to affect the narrative of his stardom. In all, he was in and out of the hospital for about seven years. Fraser needed a laminectomy, and then a second one when the first one didn’t take. Online interest in the story led to the meme-ification of Fraser with fans roasting both parties over the ridiculous sum. I don’t know if I’ve been sent to the glue factory, but I’ve felt like I’ve had to rebuild shit that I’ve built that got knocked down and do it again for the good of everyone. And Smith took Fraser to the cleaners. From the serious School Ties to sillier fare, like George of the Jungle, to the ever-bankable action of The Mummy, Fraser was the man for the job. In return, Smith accused her ex of hiding financial assets and it appears the payments were not reduced. Among the hits: Airheads, Mrs. Winterbourne, George of the Jungle, Gods and Monsters, Blast from the Past, Crash, and of course, the wildly popular Mummy trilogy which ended in 2008. was very, very good to me,”— Brendan Fraser in GQ

Brendan Fraser almost died in The Mummy: I did get fully choked-out (MARCA.com)

At the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century, Brendan Fraser was in the limelight thanks to movies such as George of the Jungle, ...

"I remember seeing the camera start to pan around, and then it was like a black iris at the end of a silent film. "He tightens the noose, and then, as we're about to get the shot, he's trying to make it look like it's really strangling him. He did it to himself." "The first take, I'm doing my best choking acting. Then they've got to go in [for a close-up]. In an article for Entertainment Weekly in 2019, Fraser recalled his time filming the movie.

The Real Reason They Replaced Brendan Fraser In George Of The ... (Looper)

Contrary to what various Instagram trends and retail sites would have us believe, the 1990s weren't just about oversized tees, perfect-width jeans, ...

"Once it was apparent that Brendan wasn't going to star in it," he explained, "George 2 was drafted up as a DVD premiere. Showerman told the outlet that he once left a note for Fraser when the two were both working in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the actor failed to leave Fraser any contact info, and when Original George finally met Sequel George at a charity event, he expressed his regret over not being able to respond to Showerman's note. When Disney's "George of the Jungle 2" debuted in 2003, putting more than a couple of years between a film and its sequel wasn't unheard of. It's a simultaneously cute and viable explanation, but maybe not quite the reality of the situation. Brendan Fraser's presence in the film would have altered its fate dramatically, so why did lookalike Christopher Showerman end up taking the reins, or rather, the swinging jungle vine, from the star? But when that sequel finally came, Fraser, who'd benefitted so much from his role in the original, was conspicuously absent.
