Tour de France Femmes: How FDJ-Suez-Futuroscope went from ... (VeloNews)

The French squad will be looking to beat Annemiek van Vleuten and Demi Vollering with their trademark aggressive race tactics.

“I think we have the same model as Jumbo-Visma. They had at the beginning two strong leaders with [Primož] Roglič and [Jonas] Vingegaard. Maybe only one leader can keep their chance to win and maybe we have the same scenario after the gravel stage,” Delcourt said. “After that, for me, the bubble of the Tour de France arrived. He’s also prepared for the extra pressure of being a home team at the Tour will bring. Despite the big changes within the team, Delcourt is adamant that it is still French at its core. Now, I am really happy to have a rider like this because she is a model for my riders and maybe she’s a model for all riders if they watch how she rides and how she attacks. When we signed Grace Brown, she is really a model for Cecilie, Evita, and Marta, you can attack when you feel and not only when the sport director says to attack. I don’t push the riders to speak French, I prefer if it is a natural investment. I said that I would help them and together we can change the face of the team to be more international,” Delcourt said. “With the new UCI rules in 2020, we said maybe it’s time to improve and time to be one of the best. I know that some riders speak French to be closer to the staff. “It’s really difficult when for 10 or 12 years the first language is French. To be international when you only speak French is really hard. It hasn’t always been like this for the French team.

Who will write the next part of the history of women in Paris by winning the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes on the Champs-Élysées and receive the first yellow jersey? Her research together with her husband Pierre Curie also led to the discovery of two new elements ‘radium’ and ‘polonium’. After she received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1903, the Université de Paris named one of their new buildings after her. The first woman to be buried in the Pantheon was Sophie Berthelot. Her husband, the scientist, Marcellin Berthelot, had refused to be buried without her so in 1907 they were buried together. She spent the last weeks of her life in the Conciergerie prison on Ile de la Cité in the Seine River. The charges against her were that she was part of the conspiracy against the French state. Regarded by some as a martyr of the French Revolution, a fashion icon and now a queen of pop, Queen Marie Antoinette continues to unleash passions more than 200 years after her death. The past three weeks were no different in Hors Course. Today we honor some of the most intelligent, interesting and amazing women with ties to beautiful Paris.

If that doesn't give you an idea of the strength of the field. Her experience will surely be invaluable as she hopes to guide Demi Vollering to victory in the general classification. She seems more than settled in the team car, however, and is doing a more than commendable job. The Tour de France Femmes rolls away from the Eiffel Tower for an 80km circuit race on the Champs Elysées. Join Luke McLaughlin.

77km to go: Amandine Fouquenet (Arkea-Samsic) jumps off the front of the bunch and builds an advantage of a couple of seconds, but is soon swallowed up by the chasing pack. 81km to go: The peloton is strung out initially, but is now bunched back together and it all calms down. Some even fancy that Marianne Vos (Jumbo–Visma) might win it and take the yellow jersey. A solo rider, Morgane Coston (Arkea) is now trying to bridge across and is about 14sec down. The breakaway is duly reeled in, and Marianne Vos is led out expertly by Jumbo-Visma, bursting away to take a comfortable victory in the dash for the line. 48km to go: There is a massive injection of pace from the main bunch approaching the intermediate sprint, so their green-jersey hopefuls can fight it out for the points. 30km to go: Henrietta Christie (Human Powered Health) powers across to Allinn up front, and keeps on going, launching a solo attack of her own. 15km to go: Gladys Verhulst (Le Col-Wahoo) has grabbed a 26sec lead in front of the peloton with a solo effort. 26km to go: That was a hotly-contested race for the second intermediate sprint point. She still has a lead of 12sec but will doubtless be swallowed up by the bunch before the next sprint point. 21km to go: Next up will be the solitary categorised climb of the day. Ysland (Uno-X Pro Cycling) made a break for it, but was overhauled ... she does have a solitary KOM point to show for her efforts.

I feel extremely excited to race in this first edition of the Tour de France Femmes. It is an honor to be able to participate in something that so many have fought so hard for. It’s a strange feeling to be so close to the start of the Tour de France Femmes and I think it will only feel real when we get to Sunday, that’s when it will all click. I am really looking forward to the start of the Tour de France Femmes, I’m excited for the wait to be over. Of course, I also dream about a stage win, but first and foremost, I will be working for the team. I think it’s super cool that our team has a really strong team for the race, we have new kit, new bikes and everything is special for this race just like the race itself. It’s going to be even more special for me because I will be the rainbow jersey in the first edition of this new Tour de France Femmes so it’s amazing for me and I am also very happy about this. It’s not necessarily been one of my biggest goals of the season, it’s a bit of a shame for me that there’s no time trial, but there are a lot of nice other stages and opportunities so, it will be fun. I am very excited for the Tour de France Femmes and I really want to enjoy every moment of it from the first stage to the last one. I felt a little bit off after Nationals, but Baloise Ladies Tour showed me that my strength and shape is back and that’s why I am looking forward to the race. I am definitely looking forward to this race because I think it’s going to be a great celebration of women’s cycling. The inaugural Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will be eight days, and the Champs-Élysées will be the first stage to kick it off rather than being another one-day edition of La Course, a race offered to the women for the past eight years. It’s really special and I feel privileged to be part of this race.

Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx), resplendent in a blue-black jersey designed by teammate Amy Pieters, pipped Manly for the points on offer. She took the cheers and encouragement from the crowd, joined briefly by Henrietta Christie (Human Powered Health). Kristen Faulkner and Elise Chabbey were among those affected during the race. This was a special win to savor for a sprinter who already has more than 50 in the pro ranks.
