Top Gun 2's Taiwanese Flag Patch Signals A Major Change In ... (Screen Rant)

In Top Gun 2, Maverick reps a Taiwanese flag patch despite objections by China, heralding the end of Hollywood kowtowing to the Chinese censors.

In 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home refused Chinese censors' demands to remove the Statue of Liberty and also didn't open in China. Yet, it became the highest-grossing film of the year. Despite zero dollars of financing or returns from China, Top Gun: Maverick broke numerous box office records, becoming Paramount's highest-grossing movie ever, the highest-grossing movie of 2022, and Tom Cruise's first film to surpass $1 billion at the box office. Chinese tech giant, Tencent, pulled funding over the film's alleged pro-America message, and when Top Gun: Maverick was released in 2022, the patch had been reinstated. Top Gun: Maverick’s Taiwanese flag patch signals a shift in Hollywood away from placating the Chinese censors in return for financing and distribution. In the Top Gun cinematic universe, the Taiwanese flag patch on Maverick's jacket is a tribute to his dad, Duke Mitchell, who flew a joint mission with Taiwan during the Vietnam War. It's an illuminating, endearing character detail, but the significance of Maverick's Taiwanese flag patch goes beyond authenticity and cinematic world-building. In Top Gun: Maverick, Maverick's Taiwanese flag patch isn't just a clue to the character's past; it's a clue to a major change in the way Hollywood does business.

Understanding differences between fire watch, red flag warnings ... (Tahoe Daily Tribune)

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Fire season is year-round. In the past, wildfires normally occurred in late summer and early fall when temperatures were high, ...

Small fires can quickly become large fires and exhibit extreme fire behavior, such as long-distance spotting and fire whorls. All fires are potentially serious and can spread very quickly with intense burning. Share learned information with family and friends, and always take steps to prevent a wildfire from sparking. Fires can become serious and difficult to control unless they are put out while small. Fires of all types start quickly and burn intensely. Below is an explanation of the differences between a Fire Weather Watch and a Red Flag Warning. Unattended campfires and brush fires are likely to escape. — Red Flag Warning: declared for weather events which may result in critical fire weather conditions that may occur within the next 24-48 hours. Below is an explanation of the different fire danger adjective ratings. Vegetation that can feed a wildfire does not ignite easily from small embers, but a more intense heat source, such as lightning, may start fires in duff or dry rotten wood. NFDRS uses five different color-coded adjective ratings to help the public understand fire potential. Lake Tahoe Basin, California and Nevada fire restrictions are implemented by fire and land management agencies to help keep our communities and forests safe during conditions that lead to increased wildfire danger.

Nadia Shpachenko performed at Bargemusic Friday night. Plenty of musicians are sports fans, but that personal aspect doesn't come out often in classical music.

Meanwhile, Dana Kaufman’s Honeyball was lost within its own concept, a polemic against the snobbish objections in England at the establishment of the first women’s soccer team in 1895. Playing solo, she was accompanied by pre-recorded Z, the composer singing and speaking, describing the geometry of a soccer ball. That would be a tall order for any composer, and Dubon’s piece was merely an exercise in agitation, often on only one or two notes. Sandford’s manner was baroque-ish, heavily contrapuntal, transparent, smart, and full of fine detail, and also covered the broadest range of moods of the evening. Also some of the composers seemed uncomfortably limited. This was a nice balance with what was a well-crafted variation form in three movements.

including at Tulasigeri, spread over the district of Bagalkot. The Khadi Sangha in Garag of Dharwad district is a separate unit where the khadi cloth for the flag is woven, but it has currently stopped production. But thanks to the Centre’s amendment to the National Flag Code allowing flags made of polyester cloth, the Sangha has not even received half the usual orders. A copy was also submitted to the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and local MP Pralhad Joshi. But there has been no response so far. As he spoke to this correspondent, he received calls asking for a supply of small flags in accordance with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, and also for polyester flags, to which he answered in the negative. The unit in Hubballi, recognised by BIS in 2004, meticulously follows the Flag Code and manufactures only nine specified sizes of the flag. This is the unit which supplies the Tricolour to be hoisted atop the Red Fort.
