Ford was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003. In 1998, Ford told PEOPLE that his favorite place to be was in the air — and at age 54, he became a licensed pilot. Ford even reprised his role in the cult classic's 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049. A long-time environmental activist, Ford has been championing environmentalism, sustainability and archaeology since the early 1990s. Ford has been married three times and has five kids. This is a passion he shares with his wife, Flockhart, and their son Liam.

Happy birthday, Harrison Ford! A superb grumpy old man for 80 ... (The Guardian)

This landmark birthday for our sole remaining great movie star reminds me that he seems to have been an octogenarian for decades now.

By the end of the interview, Ford is doubled up laughing. He rambles on for about a minute and a half, with Letterman looking – as Ford did with Blaine – as if he doesn’t know whether to be amused or concerned, until he eventually stumbles into something that might be construed in some parts of the world as a punchline. Part of this crumpled persona is his ability to remain two or three beats behind everyone else, like he’s slowly catching up on a joke that everyone else finished laughing at long ago. During a David Letterman appearance in the early part of the last decade, Ford launched into a long, formless joke about a man who wants to buy half a cabbage. Because, in an industry where everyone aged 25 and over is possessed by a freakish desperation to cling to their youth for dear life, warping their faces with unnecessary surgeries to try to trick the world into thinking that they’ve somehow become frozen in time, Ford has embraced the role of grizzled elder statesman like no other. My favourite of these is his encounter with David Blaine. While Blaine’s shtick often results in leaping, wailing histrionics from his marks, his meeting with Ford in 2013 couldn’t have been quieter.

The movie reaffirmed Ford as an action legend, and holds the distinction of being one of former President Donald Trump's favorite films. The Fugitive Updated 4 hrs ago The 1993 action thriller - based on the 1960s television series of the same name created by Roy Huggins - sees Ford play Dr. Richard Kimble, a vascular surgeon who is wrongfully arrested and found guilty of the death of his wife, whom he witnessed being murdered at his home by a man with a prosthetic arm. The movie was praised for changing from a city-bound thriller to a poignant exploration of the Amish community and way of life and it went on to win two Oscars. The Mosquito Coast Updated 4 hrs ago In 1986, Ford once again teamed up with director Peter Weir to make drama 'The Mosquito Coast' - which is based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Paul Theroux. The plot centres around inventor Allie Fox (Ford), a man who is disillusioned with the American Dream who decides to relocate to the jungles of Central America with his family in search of a simpler life, only for him to descend into madness. The movie provided an emotional conclusion to the story, with Han, Leia and Luke defeating the Empire, bringing peace to the galaxy and Darth Vader coming back to the Light Side of The Force. Han and Leia also coupled up, and celebrated their victory by partying with the Ewoks. Harrison Ford Turns 80: From 'Empire Strikes Back' to 'The Fugitive ... (Variety)

As Harrison Ford turns 80, here's a look at the Star Wars and Indiana Jones star's greatest performances.

The first “Star Wars” may have established Ford as a movie star, but it was “The Empire Strikes Back” that made him a legend. Audiences weren’t ready to watch Ford go off the deep end when “The Mosquito Coast” opened in 1986. It’s the kind of grizzled role Humphrey Bogart would have played in an earlier era, and one that Ford embodies to world-weary perfection. Tommy Lee Jones won the Oscar for portraying a Javert-like lawman, but Ford is equally impressive as Richard Kimbell, a surgeon unjustly convicted for murdering his wife. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is more admired, and Ford did do the heavy lifting of establishing an iconic character in that 1981 adventure. Watching him as Detective John Book, who against his better judgment begins to let his guard down as he falls in love with the mother of an Amish boy, is to be reminded of what a subtle, sensitive performer Ford can be under the right direction. Ford earned his first and only Oscar nomination for his understated work as a detective forced to hide out in Amish country with the family of a murder witness. When Ford rode to the pinnacle of his fame in the 1980s, he was the antithesis of the steroidal action heroes on display in films like “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and “Predator.” Those heroes dispatched their enemies with cyborg-like efficiency. He’s a worthy object of Griffith’s and the audience’s affection. Indiana Jones and Star Wars made him bankable, but he used the clout to get edgier films like “The Mosquito Coast” and “Witness” made. The twist ending is ludicrous, but watching Ford work all the angles up until the big reveal is nothing short of arresting. Indiana Jones may have prevailed, but you got the sense that he knew that with one false step it would have been his ass and not the Nazi mechanic getting shredded by the propeller in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Harrison Ford's 80th birthday: A look back at some of his best roles (Fox News)

Harrison Ford turns 80-years-old today and his career shows no signs of slowing down, with his latest movie set to release in June 2023.

"I’m in love," Ford said in a 2003 interview with Hello Magazine. "Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life. They have one child together, a son who Flockhart adopted in 2001, shortly before meeting Ford. Later, Ford filed to adopt the boy, Liam Flockhart Ford, and legally became his father. From 1977 to 1983, Ford made his mark as Han Solo, a smuggler for Jabba the Hut during Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine’s reign in the original Star Wars trilogy. It was rumored that Ford no longer wanted to continue portraying Han Solo, and; therefore, the character was killed off and did not appear in the subsequent two movies. The two dated for seven years before Ford proposed in 2009 on Valentine’s Day. They were married the following year in New Mexico. This role was a departure for Ford, and fans were shocked to see him in this kind of role. In the first movie, he is fighting against Nazis. In the second installment, he is in search of an ancient stone and the evil it threatens against those who touch it. This move also stars Shia Labeouf, as they try to stop the Soviets from getting back in power. In the third feature, he is searching for his missing father. He is tasked with tracking down four escaped replicants; however, prior to starting his mission he meets and falls in love with a replicant named Racheal, making his job much harder. After escaping while being transported to prison, Kimble manages to escape and begins the hunt for his wife’s actual murderer. This role garnered Ford his third Golden Globe nomination out of a career total of four.

Harrison Ford the actor has survived all manner of pyramid-based snakes, poison darts, gunfights and, in real life, a bunch of plane crashes.

OK, buckle up, because this part’s going to age you: In 1982’s “Blade Runner,” Ford played a sort of robot hunter working in the bleak, dystopian year of 2019. I don’t really remember the movie, but I’m going to assume he was devoured by mosquitoes. Indy should’ve been snake chow, and we all know it and we just let it happen! It would take 472 days to assemble all the ways Ford’s character should have died in the various "Indiana Jones" movies. They should’ve titled one of the installments “Indiana Jones & The Inescapable Reality That Death Comes For Us All, Except For Him, He’ll Be Fine, Folks.” Despite what you may have seen in “ Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” when the galaxy’s beloved Han Solo gets light-saber-murdered by his own ungrateful son, actor Harrison Ford is very much still with us.

Harrison Ford is a trained airline pilot, but even he proved to be daunted by the idea of doing an emergency plane landing like Sully.

Although Ford himself wasn’t in Sully, the drama movie based on the emergency landing starring Tom Hanks, he was instrumental in getting the film made. “He gave Sully my phone number, and that’s how it all started,” Marshall said. After hitting the big-time as a movie star, Ford got his airline pilot license at the age of 53, and has even conducted his fair share of voluntary rescue missions in his own helicopter.

He's made honest misfires, but he'd never make "Escape Plan." But the man has made action movies. He's only earned one Academy Award nomination (for "Witness," a drama with pronounced action elements), and deserves greater recognition for his acting. "Air Force One" is a mindless '90s action movie gussied up with an A-list cast. You couldn't very well make a list of the best action films of the 1980s without including "Robocop," "Predator" and "The Terminator," but these are first and foremost works of science-fiction. They had a plot, they had characters, they had conflict. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the newly-minted octogenarian says, "I never considered myself to be an action film actor.
