Media 'itching' to bring back COVID-19 restrictions (Sky News Australia)

Across Australia we are experiencing a rise in the number of daily COVID-19 cases and while reporting on the pandemic has dramatically shifted for the ...

But for journalists to be pressuring our leaders to be brave and tighten restrictions, based on their gut feelings, is everything wrong with journalism this pandemic. Nothing is stopping you from wearing a mask 24-hours a day if you feel the need to do so. Perhaps the looming state election plays a role in the Health Minister’s opaque commentary and that is why it is so crucial for journalists to demand with vigour that our leaders be transparent before the polls. Keep in mind this is supposed to be “analysis”, not an opinion piece and Dow is not quoting anyone. These are just basic rules in journalism that were broken every day of the pandemic by a progressive faction of journalists who personally happened to agree with the heavy-handed approach. Journalists pressuring our leaders to be "brave" and tighten restrictions, based on their gut feelings, is everything wrong with journalism this pandemic, writes Jack Houghton.

Beth Rigby on the PM's resignation that expressed sadness but not ... (Sky News)

One thing about Boris Johnson is he doesn't really give you much emotion, but what he does is use language to show the emotion.

And well it must be, this is a PM who but two weeks ago was boldly saying he would serve into the 2030s. His supporters stood in the street and smiled as he gave the speech he was insistent he would not make. He said it was painful not to be able to see through the projects he had begun.

Boris Johnson's election promises - how much progress has been ... (Sky News)

Sky News looks at how much progress has been made towards the pledges of the 2019 Conservative manifesto - from Brexit to taxes.

The Climate Change Committee says spending needs to be increased to £50bn a year by 2030 to reach that goal. The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill was announced in March 2021 and was brought into force this year. This meant the government borrowed large sums of money. Two-thirds of the hires have been completed with 12 months to go. There were almost 40 million fewer face-to-face appointments in the last year compared with 2019, but 70 million more took place through other means - for example either online or over the phone. Progress: Latest figures show there are 321,624 nurses and health visitors in England in March 2022.
