What the teams said – Qualifying at the 2022 British Grand Prix ... (Formula 1 RSS UK)

The drivers and teams report back on all the action from final practice and qualifying at Silverstone, for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022...

"It felt like we had made a good step with the car in the dry in FP3, and that we could be in the mix for qualifying. The car behaves well in the dry as well as in the wet and all the data emanating from the factory show that we have taken a good step forward thanks to the changes made this weekend." But all we can do is turn the page and see what we can do tomorrow. "Obviously, we are not happy with the level of performance shown here, but the guys are continuing to work hard, and we will be looking to maximise any opportunities that come our way in tomorrow’s race. "I am looking forward to tomorrow, the track conditions should be dry, and I think we have the opportunity to score some points, which is always our main target. "In FP3 we looked very strong with good pace in the dry and we felt like we made good progress. It’s put us quite a bit back on the grid, so we have a lot of work to do tomorrow but we will come out swinging.” "We found the issue in the car that was troubling us on Friday and in the race we will be a lot more competitive. The car is good in the wet and the dry, so if the car is working well during the race tomorrow then we should have a good chance of winning.” We backed off to charge the battery and go into a racier mode for the final lap but that was just when the rain started to fall heavier and it cost us. It was tricky for everyone out there but I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t have a better qualifying session, we didn’t expect to fight for pole but more was possible. It will be a very tight battle with our competitors, but I’m ready for it and I’m sure we can put together a strong race and fight for the win.

“I’m always happy to be here, it’s a great track, it's a great atmosphere in general - maybe some of them don’t like me, that’s fine, they all have their own opinions. I don’t think we need to do that. “I don't know if we can challenge for a win,” said Hamilton. “The Red Bulls are so quick. Leclerc spun through Chapel curve on his final push lap, squandering his prospects, while the resultant local yellow flags prompted Verstappen to back off. The typical British summer was in full effect at Silverstone, as rain fell 10 minutes before qualifying and continued throughout the three-stage session, with air temperature a paltry 57 degrees. The pole came at a soggy Silverstone circuit.

Formula 1 British Grand Prix: How to Watch the Race Live Today (CNET)

Will Superstar Lewis Hamilton score his first win of the season on his home track? We'll have to tune in to see.

Sling TV's $35 Orange plan might be a good choice for F1 fans who are primarily looking to just watch the races on Sundays. This plan is one of the cheapest ways to get access to ESPN and ESPN 2. Users will still be able to view all F1 onboard cameras, along with full replays of F1, F2, F3 and Porsche Supercup. It also includes the historic race archive. Hulu Plus Live TV is a little more expensive than YouTube TV, but it also offers all the channels you need to watch every second of race weekend. Teams need both strategy and skill to compete against some of the best minds in motorsports. The base package lacks ESPNews, but you can add it for an extra $8 a month with the Fubo Extra Package or pay for the $80-a-month Elite streaming tier that includes Fubo Extra. Check out which local networks FuboTV offers here. The length of the races also varies, with some, like the Indianapolis 500, lasting 500 laps and taking over three hours to complete. Teams can field more than two cars, meaning that the amount of drivers on the grid fluctuates from race to race. Each driver needs to use two different tires in the race, so a pit stop is mandatory, though cars are not allowed to refuel. In contrast, the cars featured in IndyCar are more standardized. The entire race weekend, including practice sessions and qualifying, will be shown in the US on ESPN's family of television networks. We've broken down everything you need to know in order to stream F1 races this season. The British racing megastar qualified in fifth Saturday and currently sits in sixth place in the Drivers' Championship standings.

Speaking of tires, teams were allowed to change tires during this stoppage. It's green-green-green and Sainz makes a much better start. And he's set the race's fastest lap. With the cars heavier on a full fuel load, is unlikely teams will start on the soft "reds" at the start. A one-stop strategy has worked best in recent races at Silverstone, and Pirelli will be bringing its three hardest compounds to the track with C1 "whites" being the hardest of those, C2 "yellows" the medium tire and C3 "reds" the softest. After a lengthy red flag stoppage session after the heavy crash by Zhou Guanyu right at the start, the field restarted with pole-sitter Carlos Sainz Jr. learning from his earlier start to better defend on the second start. With all that, Hamilton is now running third. At a circuit with many elevation changes and some very technical corners, the Ferraris may find they have an advantage.

F1 British Grand Prix: Carlos Sainz leads after race delayed by crash ... (The Guardian)

Join Alex Hess for updates from Silverstone, where the race is restarting an hour late after a major crash on turn one.

And Bernie Eccleston says he would “take a bullet” for Putin, that the war in Ukraine is “unintentional” and that Hamilton could have “brushed aside” Piquet’s remarks. And the drivers head off for the formation lap. Among the spectators at Silverstone is Tom Cruise. I’m sure he’d agree that there are a few good men on the grid today but Verstappen – a driver without limits – is far and away the favourite. Lap 1/52: We’re under way – and the cars have barely left the grid before we see a huge crash. An official statement has said: “The FIA advises that following the start of the race, emergency crews were immediately in attendance and the drivers of Car 23 (Albon) and Car 24 (Zhou) have been taken to the medical centre. Controversially, it looks like the drivers will restart in grid order, which puts Verstappen – who had moved past Sainz in the early moments – back to second and Hamilton, who was third when the red flag came out, back to fifth. Lap 1/52: Albon is also out, while Tsunoda and Ocon look to have damage. Lap 6/52: Leclerc is doing his best to hunt down Verstappen, the gap between them a tight half a second. These people were immediately removed and the matter is now being dealt with by the local authorities.” Lap 14/52: And it looks like the issue with Verstappen’s car hasn’t been entirely fixed. Verstappen trundles into the pits and emerges in sixth. Lap 17/52: So then, we have the two Ferrari drivers in first and second, with Leclerc not happy about being stuck behind his teammate.

Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu was protected by the "halo" of his car at the British Grand Prix when Zhou's car flipped and skidded along the track.

"Further updates will be given in due course." Zhou's car flipped immediately after that initial contact and skidded for several hundred feet across the track and then the gravel trap before its momentum sent it hurtling over the tire barrier and into a space between the barrier and the fence. During the first lap Sunday at the British Grand Prix, Chinese Formula One driver Zhou Guanyu was involved in an intense crash that flipped his car and sent it skidding across the pavement before it flipped into a barrier against a fence.
