Pogacar the man to beat in Tour de France (7NEWS.com.au)

Slovenian cycling star Tadej Pogacar looks unstoppable as he guns for his third-straight Tour de France title.

Australian Jack Haig, who crashed out of the Tour early last year before finishing third overall at the Vuelta a Espana, is in the Bahrain Victorious lineup from Friday. He will need to show that fearlessness again in the first few days when the winds in Denmark and the cobbles of northern France may prove treacherous. Dubbed the "Baby Cannibal" for his similarities to five-time Tour winner Eddy "The Cannibal" Merckx, Pogacar has already won the UAE Tour, the Tirreno-Adriatico and Tour of Slovenia stage races this season.

Tour de France: Can anyone challenge imperious Pogacar? (sportsmax.tv)

Then just 21, he required a 57-second swing to overtake his compatriot Primoz Roglic on the final time trial. He went on to win the grandest of the Grand Tours ...

Brazil looked set for another shot at glory in Germany in 2006. He managed just 17 further strikes in the famous yellow shirt during his career. It was the first of two masterful midfield displays to end the World Cup hopes of drab Brazil teams, with Wesley Sneijder assuming Zidane's role as the Netherlands vanquished Dunga's men in South Africa in 2010. The class of 2002 thus hold the record for the most games won by a nation at a single World Cup, with Ronaldo – coming off an injury-blighted four seasons at Inter in which he managed just 36 Serie A appearances – the star of the show. That moment, the pinnacle of the legendary forward's career, remains unmatched to this day for the Selecao, with Brazil failing to add to their five World Cup crowns in the subsequent two decades. It is no exaggeration to say Brazil's last World Cup win was one of the most impressive triumphs in the competition's history.

Tadej Pogacar Q&A: Winning the Tour de France twice is ... (The National)

UAE Team Emirates rider is bidding for a hat-trick of titles in the world's most famous cycling race.

We did a reconnaissance of a lot of the important ones mainly in the Alps and the Pyrenees but also the cobbled stage to Arenberg. What I can say is that it will certainly be an entertaining Tour de France from a spectator’s perspective. There are so many emotions when you stand on the podium in Paris. There is so much going on it's difficult to take it all in. As a joke we proposed to do what we did but the truth is I think both of us were just happy with the situation so if either of us won we were both happy. The first year I took the win right at the last second and didn't wear the yellow jersey on my back for the whole race. The passion for cycling in Slovenia has grown so much over the last few years and it's beautiful to be part of. We hit the ground running on day one and from then on we managed to grab a few more victories along the way.

Jonas is super strong, we're strong individually and so the whole team is strong," Roglič insisted. Jumbo-Visma appears united as a team but do have multiple and very different goals. "If we do the best all together, we're a strong team and have a lot of qualities individually. There were hints of rivalry during the Criterium du Dauphine, when Vingeggard appeared stronger on the final mountain stage but Roglič was already race leader. So much can happen for us and everyone. "A lot can happen in the Tour de France, there's so much stress and crashes.
