Covid-19 ravages Tour de Suisse cycling race (swissinfo.ch)

Multiple cases of Covid-19 have caused chaos at the Tour de Suisse cycling race in Switzerland, forcing three teams and numerous riders to pull out.

However, after three months of falling infections, new coronavirus infections have started rising again slightly, most likely due to two new Omicron subvariants, BA.4 and BA.5. A total of 16,610 new cases were reported on June 14 for the previous seven-day period. Tour de Suisse organisers have decided to continue the race despite the growing number of Covid-19 cases. Most European countries have so far detected low rates of the two subgroups.

Tour de France concerns as Covid positives rock Tour de Suisse ... (road.cc)

Happy Friday! The weekend is just around the corner, Dan Alexander will be bringing it home with your final live blog of the week.

#Tourdesuisse2022 (link is external) At the start of 2022 he took on the role of news editor. This decision was taken in consultation with the management of the Tour de Suisse. 2/3 "The riders sharing a room with the positive cases are deemed high-risk contacts, so in the interest of rider, team and community health, we decided it is best that they also be withdrawn. Yesterday, Adam Yates and the entire Jumbo-Visma squad left the race following positive tests. A statement by the race organisation is expected later this morning. That’s going to make it a rather rare sight and the chances of two turning up for the same club ride are slim. A bubble is not magic, but it at least limits contamination. But all the teams still in the race have agreed to restart, there is no other decision on today's stage." It feels like coming back in February-March. Since yesterday, we have seen the return of masks everywhere," he said. I loathe the self-important, bluging-calved, Lycra-clad, road-hogging behaviour of Serious Cyclists on their 10-grand-racers — mowing down pedestrians and yelling obscenities at Nissan Micras". Nico Denz got the nod ahead of Clément Champoussin, while José Herrada and Quinn Simmons were third and fourth respectively.

Covid threatens to disrupt Tour de France line-up (Cycling Weekly)

Virus sweeps through the peloton at key preparation races with Tour de Suisse race leader Vlasov forced to abandon.

However, Maduit was reluctant to commit to pulling the team's riders out of the Tour de Suisse due to the risk of picking up the virus elsewhere. It feels like coming back in February-March. Since yesterday, we have seen the return of masks everywhere," Maduit said. "For the moment, we cross our fingers because it falls hard next to us but we are not affected. A huge list of riders from multiple teams were withdrawn from the action this morning due to the virus. While, three DSM riders along with thewhole of Jumbo-Visma are also out of the race in Switzerland. San-Millán deleted some of his comments but he does not appear to be alone.
