She added: “It suited Malmo who wants to be taken seriously and be seen as a big club. Of how his appointment will be viewed in Sweden, Fagerlund said: “They might be surprised it’s the Championship but not that it’s a big job. “Two league titles, reaching the group stage of Champions League in 2021 and showing a genuine interest in the whole club and its academy makes him one of the greatest. “He isn’t the biggest and most famous coach in Denmark but he can make great results which he has shown as an assistant coach with the Danish national team and in Malmo. “During his last year he relied way more on his older players – to be fair the whole squad is quite aged – but because MFF have the biggest budget in the Swedish league it’s always going to be tough for younger talents to establish themselves in the starting line-ups.” Christian Kjaer, of TV2Sport, is among those working on the Tomasson story, and told the Lancashire Telegraph: “In Denmark we see Blackburn Rovers as a club with great British traditions.

Ben Rosen's route to Blackburn Rovers - from Pochettino to Jon ... (Accrington Observer)

Ben Rosen has been brought in as Blackburn Rovers' new Performance Director, to work alongside Head Coach Jon Dahl Tomasson at Ewood Park.

So it turned out, Rosen was poached by FC Copenhagen in September 2020 to become their Head of Fitness and Conditioning. Rosen now speaks fluent Swedish, but has always coached his group sessions in English. Åge Hareide - former Norway manager - was the one to bring Rosen in and he placed a huge amount of trust in him. Åge also allowed Rosen to implement GPS over in Sweden for the first time, while bringing a local restaurant on board to provide full catering for the team. He became the national side's first full-time fitness coach and contacted the player's clubs on a regular basis. When Saints boss Nigel Adkins moved to Reading in 2013, the manager took Harvey with him and that led to new Southampton chief Mauricio Pochettino asking for a one-on-one chat with Rosen. Rosen moved to Sweden, not knowing anybody living in Scandinavia at the time.

Blackburn Rovers fans react to Jon Dahl Tomasson appointment (Lancashire Telegraph)

We asked our Rovers fans jury for their thoughts on the appointment of Jon Dahl Tomasson, and the club's month-long search for a new head coach.

In my opinion I can't see him being here anywhere near the length of time at the club as Tony Mowbray was. It's nice to see some positivity and could be the fresh impetus that we need. He's got a good pedigree with Swedish league titles, Champions League qualification and international experience.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is now in situ as Rovers' head coach, but what are the immediate tasks that he will face?

Gain unlimited access to the Lancashire Telegraph website with a premium digital subscription with a one month FREE trial Gain unlimited access to the Lancashire Telegraph website with a premium digital subscription with a one month FREE trial Discussions over the squad will have formed part of the interview process, but working with the group day in, day out, will give the new head coach a clearer understanding of how to shape the team moving forward. There will be a new captain to appoint, with Lewis Travis looking to be the leading contender for that, but responsibilities will need to be shared around. Rovers are now working under a director of football model, and with a head coach, and Tomasson will want to quickly get his methods across to the players. There will be no quick fixes, and there will be adjustments not only on the pitch, but off it, with every manager having a different way of communicating with his players.
