Leeds have struck a deal to buy the defensive midfielder Marc Roca from Bayern Munich for €12m plus €2m in add-ons. The former Lille player, who will be 26 in August, was unavailable for six league matches because of suspension and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tottenham are close to securing their third summer signing in Yves Bissouma and the Mali international could hand Antonio Conte a Champions League boost ...

Whether Bissouma's main role is in the league or in the various other competitions, the Italian will rely on him to step-up when required and Potter's admission indicates he could do just that. Either way the midfielder will be a key part of Conte's squad. Whether Bissouma is a regular starter or takes some time to settle in at Tottenham isn't likely to be answered until next season. The Mali international has great quality in providing a link between defence and attack, something Tottenham sometimes lacked last season. This is likely to lead Winks out of the door this summer, with already reported interest from Everton. The Italian will be hoping Bissouma can do the same, if he does complete the move to Spurs.

Tottenham must find a way to reassure supporters about Yves ... (Cartilage Free Captain)

By now you've seen the news that Tottenham Hotspur are close to an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for the transfer of Mali international midfielder ...

There is no place on this team for sexual predators, and even the slim possibility that Spurs may sign one is abhorrent to me, and should be to all supporters. It is NOT the responsibility of supporters to assume the best. It is this very ambiguity that is the heart of the issue for me, and why at this time I would feel deeply uncomfortable with Tottenham Hotspur proceeding with this signing. I want to be able to enjoy watching Bissouma play without wondering if he has done something wrong, because football is more than just watching players on the pitch. Think about what it means for Tottenham fans — or football fans in general — who are survivors of sexual assault and who see a player still under suspicion of that crime joining their club. I want to believe that Tottenham, which has outwardly shown support for marginalized supporter groups and good causes in the past, has done its due diligence here and that as fans we can assume the best about what this signing means for the club. And if they are NOT able to do so, then the club has no business trying to sign Bissouma and should look elsewhere for a midfield reinforcement. Because of this ambiguity, I am deliberately trying not to draw any conclusions other than what has been reported by the police and in the media. But if they ARE able to do so, the club absolutely must address supporters with all due haste to give some assurances that they know what they’re doing. Bissouma was not charged with a crime from what happened in October, but he very notably was not fully released from suspicion, and has yet to be. I am not an expert on legal issues in the United Kingdom. I know that libel laws in the UK are strict, and that is almost certainly why Bissouma’s status has not been addressed fully in the media. He’s a player that I’ve watched and whose play I’ve admired for a couple of seasons now, and if this signing were taking place purely in a football context then it would be a hugely exciting one.

Bissouma’s expected arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would see him reinforce an area Conte has been keen to improve. The arrest took place in October and whilst Bissouma was released pending investigation there hasn’t been an update since April. Bissouma joined Brighton from Lille for £13m back in 2018 and his impressive performances at the heart of the midfield have seen him linked to a number of big Premier League clubs in recent years, with Liverpool and Arsenal said to have considered bids last summer while Aston Villa failed in their attempts to prise him away from the Amex Stadium in the winter window.

Why Yves Bissouma will be immense for Tottenham Hotspur (HotspurHQ)

After have a reported £25 million bid accepted for Brighton's Yves Bissouma, here's what the dynamic midfielder could can offer Tottenham.

Compared to Hoijberg, Skipp, and Bentancur, Bissouma puts up more tackles and interceptions per 90, as well as only being dribbled by 0.6 times a game. While this may mean some rotation between Hoijberg, Skipp, Bentancur, and Bissouma, there is certainly a strength to be had in squad depth, and as we compete in the league, domestic cups, and the Champions League, having such high quality in the midfield will be paramount. At 25, the midfielder is in his prime, appearing 26 times in the league last season, accumulating over 2,000 minutes, and contributing a goal and two assists.

The Brazilian, 25, seems to think it is time for a step up after four years with the Toffees. While Spurs may have to fork out £50m or so for him, Richarlison would be a serious upgrade on their current back-up offensive options. Yves Bissouma to complete Tottenham medical on Thursday (Cartilage Free Captain)

Well, the Yves Bissouma discourse isn't showing any signs of slowing down, and neither is his apparent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham’s transfer agreement with Brighton is said to be between £23m-25m, with performance and appearance escalators that could take the fee to just over £30m if all of them are met. In addition, because Mali didn’t make the World Cup, he’ll be one of two Spurs CMs (along with, presumably, Ollie Skipp) who will hopefully return from the Qatar break rested. Well, the Yves Bissouma discourse isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, and neither is his apparent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Alasdair Gold is now reporting that Bissouma is set to fly back to the UK today in order to complete a medical at Tottenham’s training ground on Thursday. The transfer could presumably be finalized as soon as tomorrow afternoon.

How Bissouma is exactly the midfielder Conte's Tottenham need (The Athletic)

Even based solely on his two performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, there is plenty to excite Spurs about their imminent new signing ...

At his best, it seems as though Bissouma is doing the job of two players, and the feeling at Brighton was that, with him in the team, the other midfielders were more effective. “One criticism is that for such a gifted footballer on the ball is that he doesn’t score enough goals,” says Hughton. Bissouma’s shots flying into the stands became a regular sight for Brighton fans, who nevertheless loved the midfielder and regularly chanted his name. Stay in your position’. He has helped me understand the game better and that understanding in the Premier League is so important.” The question was always, ‘Is he going to turn that talent into productivity?’. He has done that in the last few years.” “The fee looks like really good business for Spurs. He has a lovely knack of receiving it and driving past players — whether a bit further forward or in that deeper role.” Bissouma thrives in that deeper position, excelling with his ability to resist the opposition press and receive the ball in tight spaces, while at the same time helping to unlock the potential of his team-mates. When he started to play more, the tactical side of his game improved.” He has been fundamental to how Brighton have played under Potter, able to receive the ball on the half-turn with either the inside or outside of his foot and keep possession or win fouls. He did then qualify that by saying, “Because in my mind I’m working to be the best,” but it’s a sign of the player’s confidence, and such a high opinion is shared by many in the game. “He has good physicality, he gets around the pitch, he is agile and tactically strong. This is something he has referenced on several occasions, and his lack of options off the bench was a frequent complaint in public and in private last season. Potter is a huge fan and has frequently praised the midfielder, including after that Spurs win having just said he didn’t want to single out individuals.

Bissouma move shows Tottenham Hotspur is thinking big picture (HotspurHQ)

The signing of Yves Bissouma is significant for Tottenham as a genuine sign of the club's intent to fight for more than a top-four finish in 2022-23.

In adding a player like Bissouma, Director of Football Fabio Paratici has turned a position of strength into possibly the best defensive midfield room in England. During the first half of the season, Hojbjerg and Skipp were learning each other and two different systems as Nuno Espirito Santo left and Antonio Conte arrived at N17. However, by adding a player capable of competing with Pierre Hojberg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Oliver Skipp, Tottenham Hotspur becomes a better team, more prepared for the rigours of an extensive campaign ahead.
