A user can also choose to send photos to the Shared Library automatically using a new toggle in the Camera app. Browsing in Safari is even safer with passkeys, unique digital keys that are easy to use, more secure, never stored on a web server, and stay on device so hackers can’t steal them in a data breach or trick users into sharing them. Users can choose to share existing photos from their personal libraries, or share based on a start date or people in the photos. They will also work across apps and the web, and users can sign in to websites or an app on non-Apple devices using just their iPhone. Now users can schedule emails ahead of time and are even given a moment to cancel delivery of a message before it reaches a recipient’s inbox. CarPlay will be able to provide content for multiple screens within the vehicle, creating an experience that is unified and consistent.

This includes a wide array of new features and integrations with the car itself. iOS 16 is also bringing new features to the Wallet app. The Matter standard “provides the underlying technology” for new smart home accessories, and Apple is implementing support to HomeKit. iOS 16 also includes changes to how notifications are presented. Developers who are registered with the Apple Developer Program can log into the Developer Downloads portal and install the software update profile needed to register your device for receiving beta updates. Apple is expecting that iOS 16 will be available for a public release later this Fall. Apple demoed its long-term CarPlay strategy at WWDC ‘22; this CarPlay strategy is coming in a later update to iOS 16 and will require partner vehicle manufacturer changes. This uses biometrics to store a key that is authenticated with a website securely, bypassing the need for any passwords and eliminating nearly all phishing attempt scams. Each year, Apple updates its family sharing features to allow for additional niceties to let families stay in touch and set up devices for children, and this year is no exception. Two big features in Apple Maps in iOS 16 are multi-stop routing and new MapKit integrations for third-party apps. SharePlay, introduced late last year in iOS 15, will get the ability to kick off a session within Messages and without audio or video. The last major Wallet app features are the ability to pay later and order status. iOS 16 is Apple’s newest version of the iOS mobile operating system that powers iPhone devices. You can choose the font, color and size, and include a widget area under the time so you’re always seeing up to date information from your favorite apps right on the Lock Screen.

Sometimes you get a bunch of notifications in a row from one app, like the score of a basketball game. So you could have one lock screen set for when your Work Focus is enabled and another for workouts. The widgets are akin to complications on the Apple Watch lock screen. Each style changes the color filter, the background and the font to complement each other. So if you notice a typo after a message, you'll be able to edit the message after the fact. Next -- and this might be my favorite new feature -- you can immediately recall a sent message. iOS 16 will likely be released this September alongside the heavily rumored iPhone 14 and will be available for the iPhone 8 and later.
